Welcome back mate, good to see the old faces coming back.
As the saying goes a rest is as good as a change, I've rested and I'm back, there was a bit more to it than that but that's a story for another day.

More like yakked up, like a giant hairball, than dragged in…

WOW…gorgeous builds! The Tornado is my fav… what a pretty bestie! I’m working on a P-51D but it’s been a bothersome build with too many things going wrong… did you use Allclad for that sexy finish on yours?

Thanks. Had to make a good job of the Tornado as it was my first Father’s Day present.

Not a big fan of Alclad on NMF as it does not mask well, even when glossed.

My go to is Tamiya AS-12 decanted and then various metallic shades done by mixing in Gunze acrylic greys, whites, blacks and tints.

I’ve never tried Alclad, though it seems to have a huge following, and probably for some good reasons. I stay away from it due to it’s toxicity… my wife is chemical intolerant, and not only do I know what will results in a bad reaction should she come in contact with any given nasty-chemical, the smell alone can be very discomforting for her, so I try to avoid toxic chemicals of any kind; and let’s face it… toxic is bad, even when handled responsibly, but I realize that’s a bit of a stand most people would tell me I’m over-reactive about.

I’ve searched for alternatives… I’m intrigued by your Tamiya AS-12! Thanks for the method you use! …love to learn new things like this. I see that it’s a synthetic acrylic lacquer, and not being a chemist, I’m not sure if the lacquer component is toxic or not, but it’s likely better than Alclad! Currently, I plan to try Vallejo Chrome Metal Colors acrylics, which I plan to try on a P-51D test kit.
