Tamiya Fieseler Storch Fi156C 1:48
1 month 2 weeks ago
I picked this kit up on Trademe and then brought the Eduard external detail set, unfortunately I couldn't find the internal kit for a price I was willing to pay
After watching a few youtube videos I figured that adding so detail was relatively straightforward.
so far added the tube framing to the glass house, extra bracing that was missing and additional detail to the engine panels
Then added additional detail to the engine and paint
After looking at the engine panels again I wasn't happy with the look so changed it up with some scrap PE, added the tube and then used the styrene rod to make the bolt heads
The instrument panel was relatively OOB however I used Canopy glue to simulate the glass dials
Finally came the test fitting before closing it all up
Not completely happy with the engine I added some scratch built parts and pipe/cable work
Now I'm up to painting the figures, this is something I have always avoided as I have found it difficult but am happyish with the results so far
Soon it's back on the plane itself, not quite sure where it will head with scratch built detail but thats half the fun

Great work so far- the scratch building really adds to Tamiya's already excellent base. I like the look of the Storch in Regia Aeronautica colours, which scheme will you be finishing this in?

Thanks, the Regia Aeronautica scheme is good but the Swiss Airforce scheme is also a big plus (if im removed from this forum i understand)... But bad puns aside I'm a fan of the box art so will be going with that.
I'm undecided if I use the decals or go with mask and paint

It's been a bit slower while I got distracted by another build.
Nearly finished on the canopy, just need to paint
Also made a start on the wings and tail with all the extra details

Wings are on and the canopy is closed up
The build is entering the home stretch, then the dun and games of painting

Well this build is going pretty smoothly... or should I say was
This is one of the wings with the masking off...
This is the other
We had a run in with some isopropyl...
At least the engine looks good

Nice work, shame about the IPA, that is a real bugger, always annoying when something like that happens.
Engine looks great!

Well after removing some paint and putting it back on following the IPA incident we are now on the home stretch
All the masking has come off and the added detail in the canopy has paid off, its busy but not overly so
The engine covers are on too, just need to add the struts and the build is in the final stages
Now it's decals and a bit of light weathering/staining
