WOW!
I have not yet even completed stage one of the Sherman. The Road Wheels and suspension system. The inside rim of each wheel is a seperate part which inserts into the reverse side of the wheel/tyre part. Fit is pretty good but there is a very slight gap around the top of the rim. We're talking 0.1 -0.2mm here. But it is very noticeable, even though it is in a position where it will mostly not be seen on the finished model. I have never used Mr Surfacer product before and am now a convert. A very light spin around that gap with Mr Surfacer 1000 and BING, No More Gap!! WOW!
I'll be investing in the whole range now! ;)

WIP = Slow

Attachment WIPVVSS-1-pt2.jpg not found

Sherman VVSS suspension. Step One in the instructions.
Each suspension set, which includes two road wheels and a return roller, consists of twelve parts (Boxed and arrowed)
These twelve parts have a total of 33 sprue attachments
There are six suspension assemblies, 3 per side. (72 parts)
That totals out to 198 sprue attachments to cut and clean
And this is only the suspension assemblies
SLOW

I really am waiting for the Indi Tracks assembly, so this is just getting some practice :S
Hey they only have 415 parts each side :pinch:

Onward

Take my hat of to ya D1 ;-) Looking forward to watching this build, BTW I really enjoyed your North Africa build too.

Ha the joys of Sherman suspension :woohoo:

Don't forget to add the screw holes to the opposite side of the bogies. Check out the link below for what I mean :)

Depending on how long you want to wait, ET Model make a Sherman Track Skid set, which includes a template for drilling the holes :)

I'm looking at getting myself a set when I get the Voyager PE and Bronco tracks

Gee those look good Andrew. Thanks for the links in your two posts here :)
I think I'll stay with the kit bits this time around. I do have brass and copper sheet and can attempt to make my own template for the screw holes, which will be kinda guess work and transcribing the measurements from the other site too. :silly:
Interesting that with the level of detail that Dragon have included in these kits, they missed this out. Just more work for the time pressed modeller :side:

Cheers

Additional research info here:

www.ibiblio.org/hyperwar/USMC/USMC-C-Peleliu/

Many of the participants in the battle with a literary turn of mind best compared the ridge areas of Peleliu with the description of Dante's "Inferno."

Just a very quick base touch

One crap shot of Hull and suspension parts primed. A very few minor touch-ups then real colour.
I am going to attempt something like a modulation style paint job here.
I shifted a whole bunch of my stuff around to spray in this space and now cannay find the blasted KM Logo. It'll be in the next post ifn ye dinnay mind then . . .

The bits out of focus, but you get the idea.

A REAL BUGGER - A BLOODY FLY IN THE OINTMENT, SO TO SPEAK !!!

I've just had a bit of a go at cutting the end off my left thumb . . #$%$@!~**&^%&^&**><?_)+!!!!! OW!! Don't hurry preparing a fine meal!

Yuh don't realise just how important it is until yuh caint use it no more . . .Shucks... is not the word I wanted to put there . . .

The lower hull is done except for the Indi Tracks and I was about to get stuck in to the upper hull - But cannot hold on to anything let alone those insey weeny teeny fine little parts that need to be cleaned up and delicately handled etc . . .
So I am at least stumping along with some of the resin blade bits. I've already broken two fragile bits but they should be fixable.
So progress is now into Really Go Slow mode, buggrit und shitezen.

See yuh when the thumb has improved and not bleeding all over the place

David

Ouch I feel for you, having had two close incidents last year one of which resulted in a hospital visit and scans, at least now I might have a chance of catching up if I get this NA build finished in time.

Commizerations (sic) on the thumb David. Hope you have a quick recovery ... or maybe its the universe telling you to slow down on or have a rest from the modelling?
I live in anticipation of your build progress on this one.
Cheers

Just to show the detail on these new Dragon kits. Just fabulous.
And that complete bogey is made up of 12 parts. It pivots in the centre, the wheels turn as does the return roller.

All the blemishes will eventually be covered with the weathering and such.

Cheers for now

I sliced a finger on the weekend just after I fitted a new no.10 blade, was so used to my blunt one I forgot my skin is not a good blade stop :(.

Nice progress, I'm almost ready to start my Sherman, though will be firing an email off to Tank Workshop about the state of some of the cast parts from the wading trunks  You'll see what I mean when I post pics later

Cheers chaps
Hope your cut wasn't too bad Grant  Yuh gotta watch those new blade AND the big ones that you've just sharpened too . . . :pinch:
I have a sense of what you might be on about Andrew, the Verlinden Dozer Blade kit is not up to Modern ideals either . . . :S and they don't even supply all the bits that one needs, and, some of those they do are quite bluntly - CRAP. I'll be replacing some bits with brass rod and such . . . Ah the joys of AM :silly:

See yuh all on the other side of the bench
