The subject of this group build is to take a model off your shelf that's been sitting there unfinished and finish it.
To start post photos of your model(s) in it's current state with a quick blurb of what version you were building and why it ended up abandoned. Then blog and post photos of you finishing it!
Extra kudos the older it is.

I'll poke my nose in now and then to have a look, you build some pretty impressive kites.

Another great build unfolding. The trouble with these big things is always space.

That looks very familiar! I made this kit a few years back, from memory it just floated together. I found painting all those propellers "character building" to say the least. And yes it will chew through the Alclad (and masking tape!) but I found it a great opportunity to try the different undercoats to achieve different shades of NMF - eg gloss black for wing leading edges. There is a really good photo walk around on the internet of an example at a UK air show which has much better reference for colours and patterns than the miniature version you get with the kit - I'll try and find it again if you like - not sure I can be of any assistance as you probably have this well under control

Good luck and patience...

This kit did not float together in fact I was really disappointed in the quality for a trumpy kit. the alclad is gonna be fun!!!!! I do love NMF planes! and I'm up for the masking !!

Any resources you have especially to differing panel colour would be very much appreciated!! thank you!

It will look impressive when done. I got to see one a few years back made, and it did look very cool.

so tried desperately to get this done this weekend... at least to a point.... but the fates conspired i ran out of Alcald!

i find i need 2-3 coats of it to get a good finish does anybody find this with alclad especially on the large models? i used the black primer ... ?

anyway got the props, bogies and surface details on as well as the first 2 coats of alclad, now just need to apply one more coat,.. the Steel, Dull Aluminium and White patches to break it up.

take a look at this and remember this is 1:72!!!

done a quick measure and the Bear is pretty much the same size as the B-52 ,... just skinnier.

When i get the other paint on it won't look so art deco!

F*CKING DISASTER, all hopes of getting this done by the 30th have gone out the window.

I let the Alcald cure for 2 days, i stuck the tape down 4 times to reduce the tack..... and it still pulled off, and this happens all over the model. not seen this before normally alcald is bullet proof, i wonder why this has happened?? it had 3 bloody coats.

this pulls straight off to the primer,.... wasted most of a jar on this ... feel like binning it.

Sorry to see this mate, but don't give up. Surely just a wee mist over should take care of it?
Maybe you sprayed from too far away and it had already semi dried before hitting the surface so didn't key properly?

Don't give up on it, even if you don't make the deadline it's always nice to get another shelf queen done

I never bin anything either. I keep and use as test subjects for paint and weathering

I never had alcald do this before, sure i know that i cannot mask chrome with out loosing a bit of lustere so that goes on last, but this is polished aluminium and its not taken the shine off its taken it back to the primer! ahh whinge whinge whinge

I put alcald on wet at 10 PSI probably too far away on the tail but deff 10-15 cms away from the wing that does this as well.

maybe a bad batch (it was a new bottle) or maybe weird humidity temp issues? although its between 60 and 70% always in that room

As a paint guru, I have found that Lacquers do not like cold weather conditions and do not dry through properly. Needs warmer climate constantly, with no warm/cold/warm/cold fluctuations and definately no moister in the air as will not cure quickly and could cause the lacquer to seperate or fish eye, will take days if not a week or so. Could add more thinner or something that will speed up cure time but this will thin your coats down having to do many mist coats over a period of days to get the finish you require.

Thanks Kiwimav, i think i was guilty of treating it like acrylic this time, i've cracked on after sucking it up but have still had some more separation which is will have to spot fix.

So this is where i got to.... very unlikely to get it finished before the 30th,...but a great excuse to crack on with it.

Ok almost got this done will Knock this off this weekend.....

Going to give it a light wash to dirty it up a bit, being sliver it catches the light differently depending on the angle so it s hard to get a good shot to show the finish!

the post shading gives a bit of deff to a flat shiny surface.
