Operation Desert Storm 25th Anniversary

January 17th 2016 will mark 25 years since the US-led Coalition began airstrikes in a prelude to boots on the ground to force the withdrawal of Saddam Hussein’s Iraqi forces from Kuwait. To mark the 25th Anniversary, we will be commencing a Kiwimodeller Group Build, beginning January 17th 2016, and finishing on the 15th of July 2016.
The build is open to any scale and any subject that played a role in Operation Desert Storm. This includes Iraqi forces. The model must be built in its entirety within the specified build dates and the build should be accompanied by a thread in the group build forum documenting regular progress. Post shots of your sprues at the beginning of your thread.
By the end of the GB (and no later than 24 hours after the completion date) participants should post five pictures of the completed build in the GB completed builds thread. There is no entry fee for the GB, but a donation for the upkeep of Kiwimodeller is welcome The winner of the group build will be decided by popular vote.
Voting will run for the week following the 15th of July, ending Midday the 22nd of July. A deadlock will be decided by a separate run-off vote.

While I wait for some markings your M109 I thought I would drag this out and have a nosey..
Lets be honest...its a crap kit..raised panel lines.. detail is weak..But hey...what the hell right? Lets see if we can get it to at least resemble an SR-71!
I have the eduard etch set for it also...but will be doing external details only as I am going to have the cockpit closed..
Some shots..

Had a quick dryfit.....I can see some filling and sanding in my near future..I am wanting this to be a quickish build by my standards so I'm not going to muck around too much.. I will rescribe If I have to but will make do with the detail that is there where I can...

I really enjoyed my blackbird build got to do some neat post shading which looked cool, the build will take you 5 minutes,...she's pretty simple, although i had the Hase kit.

that long thin red decal however is a pain in the ass and will make you cry.....

Another one I love. This was the coolest plane. Still remember the discussion over it in Space Cowboys.

i used semi gloss black with a few drops of X-19 in it then used XF-1 matt black as the post shade, this is a pretty crappy image but you can kind of see the post shade

if i was to do it again, id mask the red stripe.

That's a great looker. I think even I could mask that red line, a far better than idea than throwing the plane at the wall trying to apply that decal.

Very cool! I had the Italeri 1/48 version with the same box art but sold it on the forum here a while back.
The gaps on that thing weren't the best either on test fitting.
In 1/72 scale it still looks a pretty decent size and will be watching.

And were off! Cockpit tub in... forward fuselage together ..gaps filled and sanded..

I have also started carving into the engine covers to replace the grills/vents with the ones from the photo etch set..this is something new to me so Im not expecting great results...but hey..its about havin a go right?
