Welcome, Guest
Username: Password: Secret Key Remember me

This group build is to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain. It will run from 10th of July to 31st of October, 2015, following the dates of the battle.

The build is open to any scale and any subject that played a role in the Battle of Britain. While the Battle of Britain is foremost remembered as an air battle, builds including figures (e.g. famous historical figures from the battle), vehicles and armour (e.g. AA guns) and dioramas (e.g. airfield dioramas) are eligible provided a documented link can be established.

The model must be built entirely within the build dates to qualify, and the build should be accompanied by a thread in the group build forum documenting regular progress. Post your sprues at the beginning of the thread! By the end of the group build (and no later than 24 hours after the completion date) participants should post five pictures of the completed build in the group build forum which will be organised shortly.

To discourage cynical entries the build is open only to those who have been members of KiwiModeller for two months at the start of the group build and with at least thirty posts in the forums. So lurkers, get posting now if you want to enter! I will also vet for cynical or “gaming” entries and vote rigging.

No entry fee will be charged, but this is a good opportunity to make a donation to the upkeep of KiwiModeller.

The winner of the group build will be decided by popular vote. Voting will run for the week following the 1st of November, ending Midday the 8th of November. A deadlock will be decided by a separate run-off vote.

This will be my contribution. While the H model was most common during the BoB, some Ps were still used. I might get a cockpit detail set for this, but it will mostly be out of the box. This kit has a scheme for an He-111 based out of France.

K2, the HE-111 was a bomber, mine layer, torpedo bomber, V-1/missile air launch system...not used as a fighter bomber, far too slow and cumbersome, the ME/BF-110 was definately as was the JU-88, Henschel 129, FW Ta-154 Moskito to name but a few of Germany's twin engined crowd.

So, I have sen his kit built before with a cockpit detail set and it came out great, so I am looking forward to this big build Grant...awesome

Just ordered an interior detail set, exhausts, and weighted wheels from Hannants. I already have the masks. I'm a bit scared by this build.

Nah mate, you'll be ok. Having seen your other builds I see a damn fine aircraft being built.
Nice extras by the way

mate i would recommend the eduard interior for the 1:32 its massive and you can see everything in the nose.... maybe go easy on yourself and buy the masking kit as well it took me nearly two hours to mask the nose section, one cut finger and some tears...

here's mine so you can see what i mean.... loved this kit!!!

Nice but I'd personally ditch the Eduard belts and put RB Productions or W&G (or whatever they are called), belts in, it's going to be worth it.

Seconded. RB's belts are a pleasure. In fact I'm fairly certain the KM shop was my introduction to them!

You must have heaps of shelf space to fit all these jumbo sized builds!

I wish RB Productions did 1/48 belts :(

A long time, cockpit was probably about 10 hours alone.... the whole build maybe 6 months..... the engines are the fiddly things they do not go together well and the instructions are poor for this area.

but you'll love it.... such an awesome kit

Thanks, it's actually a beautiful kit to build, I've gained 3 more to build since building this one.

That's the kit I built badly a year or so ago. Very enjoyable, but way to much canopy to mask. I've been really tempted with the 1:32 Promodeler kit, but I can't build planes so its not worth it.

The first of many updates. First up, look at all those parts. :S

Spent a couple of hours cleaning up the CMK resin interior parts and glued a couple together. Detail looks excellent; fit is still to be discovered.

Okay, first point of contention: RLM 02 or 66 for the interior? Seems to be no real consensus on the internet at least, though most seem to lean towards 66 for the cockpit and 02 for the rest of the interior. It probably depends on the individual aircraft being modeled I would imagine so I think I have a bit of latitude.
