We've had Aircraft and Armour Group builds before on Kiwimodeller, but never a dedicated ship building group build. Time to get your ship together!

The GB will be launched on 1st November 2016, and run until 1st November 2017.

It is open to any scale, and material

The model must be built in its entirety within the specified build dates and the build should be accompanied by a thread in the group build forum documenting regular progress. Post shots of your sprues at the beginning of your thread.
By the end of the GB (and no later than 24 hours after the completion date) participants should post five pictures of the completed build in the GB completed builds thread. There is no entry fee for the GB, but a donation for the upkeep of Kiwimodeller is welcome The winner of the group build will be decided by popular vote.
Voting will run for the week following the 1st of November, ending Midday the 8th of November. A deadlock will be decided by a separate run-off vote.

Moderators will be Andrew and Declan (Gibbs)

So here is my first entry for this...the kit came without a box or decals... The instructions are a photocopy and barely readable...so there will be some guess work.
I bought some bergemont russian navy decals. Some warpage on the parts as well... But hey...what the hell...give it a whirl! I may do a seascape for this also....Maybe...

Nice and big! Hopefully you can go through it all with the instructions being a bit hard to read :)

Holy smoke, that's friggin huge compared to that ship. I've been aboard an Aussie Collins class sub, but that is just a midget in comparison. Quite deceptive when you only see such a small part of them when they are at sea.

I too went on board an Aus Collins Class when I was in the navy...often when we were in Sydney the Aus recruiters were the first on board..trying to get us to transfer navies to serve on subs...one look around was enough to make me say NOPE! Not a lot of room in one of those things!!

Funny you should say that, was talking to some Aus Navy brass at the weekend and they said it's the hardest arm of the forces to recruit for.

Yep, and because of that they are understaffed, so everyone is working harder, so the job is even more undesirable, so it's harder to recruit people onto it...vicious, isn't it?
We have a niece who is a marine technician on one of the Collins class boats. We were lucky enough to get a tour when they were in Pearl Harbour at the same time we were up there on holiday. Apparently they had had a very successful time of it on the RimPAC exercises up there....surprised a few people, and not always in a good way;)

That is a big sucker. Would be keen to see it beside something like an Akula or 688(i)

Nice and big, as said earlier, you don't really understand the scale of it when you don't really see it out of water lol.

Looking forward to seeing how this one goes :)

Yup, she looks like a sub!

Are you going to be going with a black, or like an off grey kind of thing? Going to be weathering it?

I will be going for a weathered black....I have an idea for a seascape for it but am unwilling to talk it up at this stage...just in case I stuff it up...cause if I do the whole lot will get binned!

Ha, that's a cool diorama, until the missile comes down in the midst of the Apocalypse. I'm glad you now have all the launch tubes shut. This almost looks like an underwater Hindenburg. Amazing subs and this one is coming together nicely.

Good idea. This makes the set up much stronger. Just make sure it will have some give so the top doesn't get ripped off if snared on something during a move.

I have still been plodding along with this...still a wee way to go..weathering on the Sub and still some work to do on the seascape...and make and fit the correct stands for it.
But here it is as it stands at the moment.
