Hobbyboss P-51D easykit was created by johnsnz
Hola,

I built the Hobbyboss 1/48 easy kit P51-D as a RAAF aircraft from 77 Squadron Post War.

Decals are from an old Ventura sheet but I ditched the Shark Mouth decal and cut some masks from frisket and painted it.

I also added a bit of extra detail in the cockpit and replaced the kit prop blades with Tamiya ones and a Hasegawa rear canopy. It's painted in AS12 with highlight panels in Super Metallics.

Nicely finished John!!!
Especially if HobbyBoss's P-51D is anything like their 'easybuild' P-40M ...
Looks like a silk purse to me ... Well done ...

Awesome work. I love the chipping on the non-glare paint in front of the cockpit.

Great job John. Those big yellow drop tanks add a nice touch of colour.
I've been meaning to do an RNZAF Mustang one day - I like Mustangs & kiwi birds - but the all silver scheme doesn't excite me a lot. I wonder if they ever flew with colourful drop tanks?

Thanks for the feedback.
I've not built any of the other HB 1/48 easykits but I hear the P-38 is pretty good.

The chipping is relatively easy. AS12 dries hard and with a thin coat of x-22 gives s pretty resilient surface. The anti glare panel is NATO black and I unmasked pretty quickly after painting it and chipped it by scratching through the fresh paint with a scalpel so it's actually chipped...

I did a bit of work on the cockpit also punching out the kit supplied instrument decals to fit on the IP seat belts are home made..

I don't know about the RNZAF P-51's the Canterbury TAF scheme is pretty colourful. I'll build one at some point as I'm aiming to build a P-51D/K for all of Commonwealth countries that flew them. Canada is up next with a build of this kit which arrived today..

That looks stunning mate. Love the overall effect. I couldnt actually tell what scale it was from the pics which I think is a great thing.

Seriously nice John!
Was all that cockpit detail molded in?
Munty thick plastic on these easybuilds, isn't it?
Check out the size of those locater holes?
Excellent 'upgrade' work ...

Lovely Stang John. Did you decant the AS12 for airbrushing, or shoot it straight from the can?

Hi,

The AS12 was decanted which is easy to do you just have to let the resultant paint de-gas.

Yes the stick interior is ok but a bit sparse. I added a bit of detail to it from evergreen lead wire and a bit of tape etc..

What a great subject and so well executed! the shark mouth is excellent! nice job man! - a lot of people don't realise what a pain in the ass getting the NMF look right!

Very nice!

It's definitely worth the effort masking and spraying the shark mouths... although I've only ever done it on 1/32 kits.
