Yeh, I agree, tracks look great.
All models seem to have something on them that seems tedious, but I am glad my tracks are still single piece!

I'm with Grant, there's tedious and then there's TEDIOUS!
However, I can see that the end justifies the means in the case of your tracks.
Keep up the excellent work and keep the updates rolling in.
In the X-Factor sense of this GB, yours has got "real contender" written all over it.
Cheers
Wally.

Gents, thanks so much for your generous comments. I do hope I can do them justice with the completed Dio, let alone the completed kit . . .

TEDIOUS in this instance = 415 parts per side. Each has 2 sprue attachments, so there are 830 cuts to make and 830 cuts to clean up, on very small parts - Each Side. So that's 830 parts with 1660 cuts to make and clean.
And THEN you need to assemble them Very Very Carefully - ensuring that there is enough glue to hold the parts firmly once cured but not so much as to move on to moving parts and bind those. And we're talking fractions of millimetres here. :side: You really do need to keep that tongue angle just so - All The Time  :P

But DANG, Do they Look Good- and they are Styrene, so cost Way Less than Friuls or ModelKasten . . .

Cheers
David

Again, looking sharp David. The Sherman is looking great all primed up. That blade sure is big, it will look great in place at the front of the Sherman ( as opposed to the back duh !).Tracks are blimmin awesome, great skills there
and patience,
Coming along nicely and certainly going to be a great dio when done.

Just some quick pics of the Sherman to date.
I have been and continue to be unwell and have not spent a lot of time at the work bench. I hope for that to significantly change soon damn it . . .

Thanks for the comments everyone.

Still not much progress here but I include some more pictures to keep up to date.
Bugger it - I've forgotten the KM Logo again.
Oh well if someone wants to disqualify me for that so be it . . .

I'm trying to play with colour modulation and washes both with airbrush and fury stick.
I've still got a lot to learn and there is still a LOT of weathering to do on this vehicle. My references show very little chipping and wear as such but certainly a lot of weathering in dirt and dust which is where I will go with this...
I have just put the decals on and will clear coat them before any further weathering. The decals I have used are not the markings of the original vehicle I had planned to do and are those provided for a straight gun tank out of the box. I needed to move on so used them anyway. Lots of corrections and paint sloppiness to fix and a fair amount of filters and washes yet to happen.

And I have started getting some of the troops into action as well. And some of the stowage in the form of the remnants of sandbag armour. Plenty more to come here too.

A long road to wellness is in my future and I may not get this one completed but am going to make the effort all the same.

Looks great Dave...very nice build
I know you'll battle on to get done before deadline, but one must also get well and the pursuit of such is far more important my friend.
Do what you can, when you can and enjoy doing it, don't burn yourself out.
Get well Dave, I wish you all the best buddy.

It's been a while since I was over here . . .
And here's an update.
Not much appears to have happened here but progress is being made. I feel a MAD Rush coming on

Here are few things that have arrived recently in aid to advance this work.
Just so I got the logo piccies in :woohoo: But all intended to be used in this build.
A couple of resin palm tree trunks, PE Straps and Slings, Turned brass radio aerial for the tank

The troops underway.
these are Gen1 and Gen2 Dragon and MasterBox - mix and matched.
All will have the Dragon Gen2 weapons and helmets and equipment. To date there are around 80 parts completed for the figures. Once complete, these six guys will total over 150 parts. And then I might just add another four fellows. The gen2 parts certainly have nice detail, but some of the parts fits leaves a lot to be desired and considerable work is needed to make them look good. Ill be cleaning and filling a few of these fellows then priming, hopefully today (Sunday 15th)

Likewise D1, glad to hear your health is improving and both your tank with stowage and troops are looking good.
Tell me how you find the Lifecolour paints? I'm thinking of replacing my Color of Eagles USN 3 tone colours with LC acrylics.

I like the 'value-gear' stuff and may get some more, seems to fit nice.
Where did you get the J's-work palm tree, been looking for these but cannot find, usually I get from Luckyhobby, but no stock at the moment :(. Want some for my Malayan Emergency diorama...

Hi Grant, I got my J's Works palm tree trunks from BNA Modelworld but they don't have any in stock at present coz I wanted some more and just went to check and they are out. Bugrit...

So far the Lifecolor paints are proving a mixed blessing. They airbrush pretty nice straight from the pottle, but brush work with them is interesting. The paints have very little "body", as in they are very pigment light. When brushing they require quite a few coats to create sufficient coverage. Beautiful colours though. I'll bring more info on these paints as I continue to use them.

Yeah Gudday all of yuz

Update time...
The M4A2 Marines PTO Sherman is more or less finished, just some minor details to complete including the aerial.
Squaddies are well under way and I'm in the assembly and touch up stage with them and their gear and equipment. There will be minor detailing once everything is in place on the dio.
I have some of the foliage and trees under way and the base is ready for terrain, ground cover, trees etc . . ., 3 coats of acrylic clearcoat automotive straight on to the bare rimu. It has come up a treat.

Some pictures...

Nice work, like the Sherman... and the weapons look great.
Did you use white glue to fix your stowage?
And how did you find the life colours when painting the figures... mine are primed and ready for paint now, well 4 of them are...
Keep it up!

Thanks Grant.
Those figures still need a lot of work.
The stowage is all glued with CA. All straps on the packs and bags are PE or lead foil, the tarps are all AM resin as are the sandbags. The water tank on the rear rack is a patch build from parts out of the spares bin collection plus brass wire for the spigot.
IMHO the Lifecolor Flesh Paint set is a load of rubbish. The paint is simply far too thin with no 'body' to it whatsoever. This is generally true of all the Lifecolor paints but in using some of the other sets I have, I've not encountered the problem of lack of ability to use them for Very Fine work. In saying that, I have no issue whatever with airbrushing the paints and have also brushed all the stowage and quite a bit of the vehicle weathering by hand without issue. It is just the flesh tones which require such finesse to use. I have found it almost impossible to place and manipulate these paints with any accuracy; rather like trying to paint with water. Hmmm, not enough, oops too much!! I became frustrated with them and have reverted back to Tamiya and Humbrol acrylics. These are able to be mixed cross brand and cope with very small amounts of Tamiya acrylic retarder which helps in colour blending and slowing down the drying time. This is useful when using very fine brushes on which the paint tends to dry rather quickly, often even before you get from paint to model. I recommend using the retarder with caution as it will effect the paint below if used too heavily.

My two cents of a moan . . .

David
