Sci-Fi & Fantasy Group Build
The main criteria for this build is to have fun!
(Build dates: Saturday 24 October 2015 - Saturday 15 October 2016)

Proudly brought to you by Kiwi Modeller in conjunction with Mighty Ape!

The Universe is vast beyond measure, and within it exists untold dimensions. Beyond these is “Te Kore” - The Nothingness. In between the reality of our existence and Te Kore “The Kiwi Modeller Sci-Fi and Fantasy Group Build”!
Parameters for this Group Build
Pretty much any subject is allowed, as long as it’s not real. Examples include Gunpla / Macross / Gundam, TV/movie models, Warhammer, Apocalypse, Steam Punk, Sci-Fi, Bio-Mechanical, Fantasy, Figurines (not based on real people). Out of box, aftermarket and scratch built all allowed. 3D printed items are also allowed but must be totally created by you, not edited from someone else’s work or had elements imported. No partially started kits or work allowed. Entrants must have been be KM members for at least 2 months. Normal vetting for any cynical entries as usual.

All entries must have a build log posted in the group build forum presenting regular progress. Judging will be by community vote and possibly guest judge (to be confirmed). Prize(s) are also to be confirmed. Entries are welcome from KM members outside of NZ and if you win a prize you just need to pay the international shipping. Voting will run for the week following the 15th October 2016, ending at midnight on the 22nd October. A deadlock will be decided by a separate run-off vote. An affordable donation to Kiwmodeller.com is always much appreciated from those participating.
Thanks, and Enjoy!

Mad maxed Datsun was created by yak
So thought i'd have a go at a GB and with 1/35 Battalion and Xtr3meNZer's mad maxer styled cars looking so awesome thought i'd try my luck at something similar. So hopefully these pics are what's needed i wont make a start until monday most likely so if there not could a mod let me know what is needed and i'll take some more. I'll be using parts from the following kits as well as ever green plastic sheets and tubing to make this happen.

Cheers guys, I didn't sleep very well last night so i got up at 6 and made a bit of a start on this before i get into the day's list of chores. Some of the amt bits aren't molded very well with seams though them and not square. just as well this is meant to look like its been peaced together out of bits and peaces. And covered in mud or something later on.

precision ATM molding

Thanks people :) I got a bit more done tonight, started making the insides and floor area nothing too pretty as the idea is it's had plates welded into it to reinforce it and make the occupant safer from gun fire etc. But over the day it has developed a bow in the chassis and with the crappy amt parts i'm just not feeling it  it's not really what i had in my head when i came up with the idea. It needs to be lower and the wheels wider out from the body it's just looking to monster truck. I know i'm using a MT as a donor but it's all i had. Maybe going flat out on models for the last few weeks after not doing much has me a little modeled out. Will see what happens tomorrow i'm hoping this isn't going to be my first kit that gets binned.

Hey it's just a monster truck, ;) Straight outta the recent Mad Max movie.
It's what you do with it that makes the difference mate. Go for those extra panels and whatever else you might think of. To steal a phrase: Just Do It :P
You know you can, and there's no rush at the mo for this GB.

Thanks guys and sorry was tired and frustrated with this, don't know why i thought i could use monster truck parts and not end up with a monster truck! anyway 35th this is awesome and along the lines i was aiming for i really needed to use something like the hilux kit you're using. So i guess i'll have to make the best of this and let the monster live :P if no one objects i'll edit my title and first post and change from the japanese theme to a mad max one.

After i bit of thought i am now happy with what i've got and where i want to take it. I have change the theme from a japanese one to a mad max one not a really big change but i like to have a story in my head as to why this car is like it is  Anyway have done a little more to the inside. Now i'm off to what the new mad max movie to get some ideas.

and it needed a bit of an attitude adjustment so i move the front spring hangers up and took 5mm out of the axle mounts

need to cut out the guards and add some flares i think. Also i had a go at dechroming some parts but its left the plastic with a really smooth finish like its got a coat of resin or something on it . Can anyone who done this before tell me if its ok to paint on or will it need to be sanded up to get a good key?
here's a pic of some of it next to the standard plastic from the kit

Looking good Yak.

I have found that you need to make sure the clear/yellow film like coating has been removed. Most of the time I end up using a #11 blade to pick it out of the corners and then give it a sand before adding primer.

By any chance are you using a miter box to help make your cuts? The joining angles on you chassis are a work of art and your cuts look super straight... something I fail at and I had been meaning to get a miter box.

Michael

Thanks Michael. and thanks for the info on the yellow film i'll try clean as much off before painting as i can. As for my cutting of joints etc they are free hand with a razor saw. a miter box is a great idea i'll have to look into that myself the later at night it gets they get a bit dodgy, the small angle braces on the gearbox member, mid chassis brace and the ones in the fuel tank area are a bit off but hopefully some well placed mud or dirt weathering will hide those little sins. Tonight i've done a bit more to the inside and it's mostly done will try make a roll cage for it next.

where the hatch latch would have been.

tail lights removed.

radiator panel

and engine bay, I'm going to try make it look like they have hacked out the original body work with a gas axe or similar to make it fit the chassis that has been made for it
