Sci-Fi & Fantasy Group Build
The main criteria for this build is to have fun!
(Build dates: Saturday 24 October 2015 - Saturday 15 October 2016)

Proudly brought to you by Kiwi Modeller in conjunction with Mighty Ape!

The Universe is vast beyond measure, and within it exists untold dimensions. Beyond these is “Te Kore” - The Nothingness. In between the reality of our existence and Te Kore “The Kiwi Modeller Sci-Fi and Fantasy Group Build”!
Parameters for this Group Build
Pretty much any subject is allowed, as long as it’s not real. Examples include Gunpla / Macross / Gundam, TV/movie models, Warhammer, Apocalypse, Steam Punk, Sci-Fi, Bio-Mechanical, Fantasy, Figurines (not based on real people). Out of box, aftermarket and scratch built all allowed. 3D printed items are also allowed but must be totally created by you, not edited from someone else’s work or had elements imported. No partially started kits or work allowed. Entrants must have been be KM members for at least 2 months. Normal vetting for any cynical entries as usual.

All entries must have a build log posted in the group build forum presenting regular progress. Judging will be by community vote and possibly guest judge (to be confirmed). Prize(s) are also to be confirmed. Entries are welcome from KM members outside of NZ and if you win a prize you just need to pay the international shipping. Voting will run for the week following the 15th October 2016, ending at midnight on the 22nd October. A deadlock will be decided by a separate run-off vote. An affordable donation to Kiwmodeller.com is always much appreciated from those participating.
Thanks, and Enjoy!

Hey guys, I have started building this couple of weeks ago, then I got sick so only managed to built the engines that week. Finally got some time this weekend to carry on building, but forgot to take photos. Got a coat of gloss black down today and the challenging part of putting down metallic paints starts tomorrow.

ok.. finally got some time to start painting.

Given all the parts a light polish, but still not as shiny as I want it to be.

Given it all a clear coat, will do some weathering tomorrow. Still not sure how much weathering I should do, the HK Hunters in the movie are all very shiny and clean looking.

Looking nice Jackie. Yeah I don't think the Mr Metals will give you a super shiny finish but you can get some extra depth with a pin wash or something like that.

You could always try AK Interactives' Xtreme Metals Polished Aluminium or the Chrome, both of which are available over at Mighty Ape here: www.mightyape.co.nz/search?i=10231&prev=...&SearchButton=Search

Both the Pegasus HK kits are on my kit wishlist. Just need to find the time to do them. The HK tank is freaking huge.

I've got both the AK Polished Aluminium and Chrome. Was going to try one or both on the Datsun I'm building. Also have the Alclads which give a great finish but are fragile and need to get a protective coat on them before they wear away from handling.

Im lucky enough to have both kits in the stash, they are not small machines.
The shine looks really good but its the old story that clearcoats really do knock back that metallic look, buy you really want to protect them.
The best I have found is actually klear or the alclad klear but apparently the Vallejo stuff leaves the evect almost completely intact.

Stand aside caffine, this is a job for alcohol.

Final touch ups, wash on for the HK Hunter and the base.

I am pretty happy with the look after cleaning up, a flat coat for the base.

Just way cool. This looks fantastic. I really good look with the metal finish, and I love the work you put into the base. Great painting. Far better than Arnie's glasses. I do remember that scene.
