Sci-Fi & Fantasy Group Build
The main criteria for this build is to have fun!
(Build dates: Saturday 24 October 2015 - Saturday 15 October 2016)

Proudly brought to you by Kiwi Modeller in conjunction with Mighty Ape!

The Universe is vast beyond measure, and within it exists untold dimensions. Beyond these is “Te Kore” - The Nothingness. In between the reality of our existence and Te Kore “The Kiwi Modeller Sci-Fi and Fantasy Group Build”!
Parameters for this Group Build
Pretty much any subject is allowed, as long as it’s not real. Examples include Gunpla / Macross / Gundam, TV/movie models, Warhammer, Apocalypse, Steam Punk, Sci-Fi, Bio-Mechanical, Fantasy, Figurines (not based on real people). Out of box, aftermarket and scratch built all allowed. 3D printed items are also allowed but must be totally created by you, not edited from someone else’s work or had elements imported. No partially started kits or work allowed. Entrants must have been be KM members for at least 2 months. Normal vetting for any cynical entries as usual.

All entries must have a build log posted in the group build forum presenting regular progress. Judging will be by community vote and possibly guest judge (to be confirmed). Prize(s) are also to be confirmed. Entries are welcome from KM members outside of NZ and if you win a prize you just need to pay the international shipping. Voting will run for the week following the 15th October 2016, ending at midnight on the 22nd October. A deadlock will be decided by a separate run-off vote. An affordable donation to Kiwmodeller.com is always much appreciated from those participating.
Thanks, and Enjoy!

Cheers guys. Glenn I used a 2 part craft resin with a little mod podge over top for slight texture. I'm not sure if the colour / look is really working tbh.

The rocks got oversprayed colour on them and the surface tension of the resin caused it to ride up the sides. So I've started re-defining them with grey (pictured) then I will paint them some 'rock' colour.

Looks good, maybe just a lil something on the downstream side of the rocks to show movement
Certainly looks better than my last water experiment that is now in the bin.

What did you use on the sides to stop it all flowing out?

Stand aside caffine, this is a job for alcohol.

Yeah, looks really nice PJ. I agree about adding something to show movement. Looks a little static but no idea how to do it.

Webby, Kane yes a sense of flow is a good suggestion! I used masking tape to stop resin spilling out.

Looking very nice, with Webby and Kanes suggestion of water movement, possibly at the narrowest area create a few ripples or swirls - pretty sure Woodland Scenics have a product for creating these effects.

Thanks Roger. I've also seen a nice flowing effect using Mod Podge.

Modge podge, thats the stuff.
Its a cheaper and easier to source (spotlight, warehouse stationary) version of the Woodland Senic stuff

That base looks like you have cut a section from a real river and stuck it on a base. That is really nice and can't wait to see it completed.

With the end date for this GB looming I pulled it out today and finished of painting the rocks and messing with the water. Threw some bushes around and plying with the idea of adding a tree. Painting the female figure will be something new for me and should be interesting. Then Ill proceed to slap together the SAFS. I'm determined to have this complete by end date. 'Good enough' will be better than 'DNF'! :)

Nice mate. Are you going to have to detail the insides at all or is it going to be closed up?

Hey Kane I'm gonna have the lid closed. I've decided the S.A.F.S. is manned. Seeking a reprieve from hours of non-stop fighting, the pilot has come across the local girl in quiet contemplation. Sensing the machine, she is aware of her vulnerability yet at peace with the prospect of imminent death.
The pilot wonders what allows her such serenity in the face of seeming disaster....

This is my first time using resin and doing a human figure so will be interesting to see how it goes.

That really works. Lovely. B)

It also really seems to counterpoint the... counterpoint the surrealism of the underlying metaphor of the humanity, urrr Vogonity...

Hey Grant yeah the counterpoint thingy that's it. Shadows of luminosity - co-existing polarities within Vogonity! :side:

I have filled some seams...

Say what? What happened to the good old days of, "He spots some scantily clad, hot chick sitting by the river and can't get his lid off quick enough?? :P

Hey Bishop yes things have changed in this scenario. As mentioned above the girl is now a local and the manned SAFS has come across her by chance. Are you wanting an extension to end date? Personally I am not sure if mine will be completely finished but intended to submit what is done by then. An extension could be discussed among participants if you'd like. Let us know.
Gary, in another scenario you and Donald Trump are both piloting SAFSs and this chick invites you both to stay with her and her twin sister at their plush mansion nearby.

I have primered both and then painted the SAFS with a brown black mixture which I intended as an undercolour. Now just figuring how I might proceed with painting and the weathering on the suit. Any thoughts?

Best of luck with the paint job with this one... I would say lost of scratches, weathering... Maybe a bit of rust streaks along certain parts. I would have suggested salt chipping, but I think you've already put your colour down :)
