Sci-Fi & Fantasy Group Build
The main criteria for this build is to have fun!
(Build dates: Saturday 24 October 2015 - Saturday 15 October 2016)

Proudly brought to you by Kiwi Modeller in conjunction with Mighty Ape!

The Universe is vast beyond measure, and within it exists untold dimensions. Beyond these is “Te Kore” - The Nothingness. In between the reality of our existence and Te Kore “The Kiwi Modeller Sci-Fi and Fantasy Group Build”!
Parameters for this Group Build
Pretty much any subject is allowed, as long as it’s not real. Examples include Gunpla / Macross / Gundam, TV/movie models, Warhammer, Apocalypse, Steam Punk, Sci-Fi, Bio-Mechanical, Fantasy, Figurines (not based on real people). Out of box, aftermarket and scratch built all allowed. 3D printed items are also allowed but must be totally created by you, not edited from someone else’s work or had elements imported. No partially started kits or work allowed. Entrants must have been be KM members for at least 2 months. Normal vetting for any cynical entries as usual.

All entries must have a build log posted in the group build forum presenting regular progress. Judging will be by community vote and possibly guest judge (to be confirmed). Prize(s) are also to be confirmed. Entries are welcome from KM members outside of NZ and if you win a prize you just need to pay the international shipping. Voting will run for the week following the 15th October 2016, ending at midnight on the 22nd October. A deadlock will be decided by a separate run-off vote. An affordable donation to Kiwmodeller.com is always much appreciated from those participating.
Thanks, and Enjoy!

I'm thinking of creating a diorama with this Super Armored Fighting Suit and 1 or maybe both of the resin figures in the pic.

check out e2046.com for some resin bits in the MaK space, like this pilot set.

Cheers guys. I am planning to have the female pilot (resin figure at top right of my pic) sitting by a stream taking a break after a hard fought battle. But looking at the opening of the suit it might not be as simple as I'd hoped to have no pilot in it. Also planning to have a little boy (the other resin figure) gawking up at the suit in awe. So it's story of war and peace - the tesion between chaos and serenity. The female pilot who was once a wide eyed keen recruit is now battle fatigued and jaded. She takes a moment to draw strength from the serenity of the stream and natural surroundings. Meanwhile another generation (the young boy) is becoming enamored by the possibility of one day being a Fighting Suit Pilot, and so the cycle continues. Too deep?? ;)

I agree. Things are 100% more powerful with a story. That's what dios and even models by themselves are. The one we go gaga at are as much because we see a story in them as the craftsmanship that created the story. Top stuff and really looking forward to it.

Interesting kit you have there.
Looking forward to see how you go about the assembly and painting of this.
Was just the other day I was looking at how someone had opened the body so the 'pilot' could debus, unfortunately I can't remember the website (had three female pilots each in a different suit).
Anywho, looking forward to progress reports.

Thanks guys so I can pretty much be my arty / philosophical self then ;)
That de-busing 'how to' sounds to be worth a look as I progress thanks Roger.
If this came out as I picture it the natural environment i.e. tree, stream, rocks, grass earth etc would be as much a feature as the suit and figures. Getting it from one's head to the table will be the tricky bit!

Still trying to remember where I saw the above mentioned dio. Have a feeling it could have been on industriamechanika.com, I'll post the link once I find it again.

Thanks Roger that is an interesting 'how to'. Splitting this suit down the side will be too much for me at this stage so I'll see if you I can re-configure the top as an entry point.
Well today I started putting some bits together. The instructions have different part numbers so a bit of interpretation is required. Parts are generally fairly well moulded although there are seams and pin marks on most parts so a fair bit of filing and sanding going on. All the joints so far are movable via a ball and 'socket' arrangement so a fair bit of mechanism going on inside the visible construction.

Good start Paul. Is the model positionable? will it be able to have some movement when done or will you have to fix it in place?

Cheers Kane I think it will be positionable tp a small degree but not major. I'm finding myself a bit impatient with the assmebly aspect because my real interest in this project is the painting / weathering of the kit and the creation of the natural environment (diorama)..

Experimenting with bushes using human hair and flocking..

Added some dirt colour to the terrain and applied some grasses

Came out ok so went ahead over rest of terrain with dirt colour using Golden acrylics. Still pondering what detail i might include in the terrain besides grass and bushes. Any thoughts?

Maybe a single bunch of flowers or something along those lines next to four figure...? Something she is staring at, but thoughts are elsewhere?

Looking really good though

Good one Webby
Kane, yeah I was thinking of having some wild flowers about the place too.
I'd quite like to have her sitting under a tree but not sure how the tree might come out. May have an experiment..

I'm figuring that the S.A.F.S. will be standing in this scene somewhere. What might something like that weigh? Remember to sink it a little into the surface; include the footprint steps from whence it has come . . . :P
Looking interesting already . . . :)
