Sci-Fi & Fantasy Group Build
The main criteria for this build is to have fun!
(Build dates: Saturday 24 October 2015 - Saturday 15 October 2016)

Proudly brought to you by Kiwi Modeller in conjunction with Mighty Ape!

The Universe is vast beyond measure, and within it exists untold dimensions. Beyond these is “Te Kore” - The Nothingness. In between the reality of our existence and Te Kore “The Kiwi Modeller Sci-Fi and Fantasy Group Build”!
Parameters for this Group Build
Pretty much any subject is allowed, as long as it’s not real. Examples include Gunpla / Macross / Gundam, TV/movie models, Warhammer, Apocalypse, Steam Punk, Sci-Fi, Bio-Mechanical, Fantasy, Figurines (not based on real people). Out of box, aftermarket and scratch built all allowed. 3D printed items are also allowed but must be totally created by you, not edited from someone else’s work or had elements imported. No partially started kits or work allowed. Entrants must have been be KM members for at least 2 months. Normal vetting for any cynical entries as usual.

All entries must have a build log posted in the group build forum presenting regular progress. Judging will be by community vote and possibly guest judge (to be confirmed). Prize(s) are also to be confirmed. Entries are welcome from KM members outside of NZ and if you win a prize you just need to pay the international shipping. Voting will run for the week following the 15th October 2016, ending at midnight on the 22nd October. A deadlock will be decided by a separate run-off vote. An affordable donation to Kiwmodeller.com is always much appreciated from those participating.
Thanks, and Enjoy!

In the infamous words of Penfold, "crumbs" that looks like a mission and a half you have in front of you. Going to look forward to seeing it come to life.

Looking really great Roger. Obviously lots of thought going in to each aspect - I can almost smell the rubber burning from here! Steady wins the race.... ;)

Cheers all,
I've never been the quickest of builders (quiet in the cheap seats :P ), but since this is a whole genre I'm just enjoying the freedom.
At the moment it's controlled chaos here and bench space is at a premium - however this project shall continue to occupy the more 'valuable' regions :) .
Just been messing about with various metallic type paints to see which best suits different areas of the build.

Hmmmmm,
It appears I've done sod-all with this for over 4 months now (yes, I'm in the corner of shame).
Just poking around the bit's I've done in the hope it will magically finish itself - but that doesn't seem to be happening. So I guess I'll need to start hacking up bits of plastic and splashing some glue around and hope it starts to look like the original photo.
Maybe I'll start tomorrow, don't want to rush in where fools fear to tread.

I was just wondering about this today. Sometime things just have to sit for years before their hour comes. Andrew is pulling out a number of such vehicles and acing them because their time has come and he is ready. No sweat.

 Was meant to be working on the Soviet Era GB but somehow ended up messing about with this build.
So a. Fixed the mess-up I made at the nose (cut out a section I shouldn't have  ), sand down tomorrow :) &
b. Started shaping the master pattern engine area  .

And by pure chance I found a picture of the ideal front suspension/steering setup while looking for something else

So a very minor progress/update but a huge advance for me as this had been stalled for quite some time

Ta for popping by for a gander and for putting up with my stop start modelling :(

Tiger - any slower and I'll be going backwards  .

Had a burst of activity today (did more today than I have in the past 6 months  ), just finally got around to doing some repetitive bits that I'd been putting off :pinch: .
Front and rear hubs and brakes nearing the stage, still a bit of tidying plus the axle mounting plates need fabricating:

Sorry about the terrible photos, had to use the phone as I've loaned the camera. Still working out the settings - doesn't seem to like LED lights  .
Feel free to point out any shoddy work etc. , only being an enthusiastic dabbler it always helps to get some CC.

Just proving this ain't dead and buried in the failures pile (yet) .
Since the original body work didn't quite live up to expectations (tinplate and brass) :( I've decided to have a go in plastic. So just prepping the body pattern ready for some plastic baking tomorrow (hopefully):

Still a bit of sanding etc.etc. to do but shouldn't take long.
For those unfamiliar with vac-forming the additional MDF bit's (top/bottom and back plate) allow the plastic to fully draw down on the pattern = less shagging around to join the two halves.

Today was spent doing a bit of R&R (repair and replace).
Rebuilt the brake drums as the first attempt were too small, second attempt too big however this lot seem about right  .
Also changed the sheet thickness for the raised fin area from .25mm to .4mm - makes them a bit more robust looking :) .
While I was at it I rebuilt the furnace as I'd done something that shall remain unmentioned   .

Unfortunately a very soggy day here yesterday and this morning so haven't finished the body patterns :( for vac-forming.

Hi all,
Thought I'd better pull finger and get the body under way again  , another afternoon spent slaving over a hot stove  :

Far from my better attempts at vac-forming however it will suffice for my needs  , the misalignment at the rear won't matter as this area will be hacked about to fit the furnace :) . Now the fun begins marking out the windows etc.etc. (hopefully I can find my templates amongst the mess on the bench   ).
Might require some R&R on the previously made floor and roof pieces  as I've altered the front so it's slightly more rounded.

Bishop - appreciate that coming from the guru B) .
