Sci-Fi & Fantasy Group Build
The main criteria for this build is to have fun!
(Build dates: Saturday 24 October 2015 - Saturday 15 October 2016)

Proudly brought to you by Kiwi Modeller in conjunction with Mighty Ape!

The Universe is vast beyond measure, and within it exists untold dimensions. Beyond these is “Te Kore” - The Nothingness. In between the reality of our existence and Te Kore “The Kiwi Modeller Sci-Fi and Fantasy Group Build”!
Parameters for this Group Build
Pretty much any subject is allowed, as long as it’s not real. Examples include Gunpla / Macross / Gundam, TV/movie models, Warhammer, Apocalypse, Steam Punk, Sci-Fi, Bio-Mechanical, Fantasy, Figurines (not based on real people). Out of box, aftermarket and scratch built all allowed. 3D printed items are also allowed but must be totally created by you, not edited from someone else’s work or had elements imported. No partially started kits or work allowed. Entrants must have been be KM members for at least 2 months. Normal vetting for any cynical entries as usual.

All entries must have a build log posted in the group build forum presenting regular progress. Judging will be by community vote and possibly guest judge (to be confirmed). Prize(s) are also to be confirmed. Entries are welcome from KM members outside of NZ and if you win a prize you just need to pay the international shipping. Voting will run for the week following the 15th October 2016, ending at midnight on the 22nd October. A deadlock will be decided by a separate run-off vote. An affordable donation to Kiwmodeller.com is always much appreciated from those participating.
Thanks, and Enjoy!
Moderators are Paul (PJNZ) & Kane (Grover)

How about a General Sci-Fi Group Build?
Other possibilities - Fantasy, SteamPunk, Bio-Mechanical.
Could be separate builds or one build that is open to any of these genres...?

Yes, I'm interested. Broad parameters suit me, as do long extended deadlines.
I like the scratch-building and dioramatic possibilities of your GB idea.
Sure is heaps of GBs and GB ideas on here at present. I'll be lucky if I manage one build for the BoB GB but I'm still aiming for two during October (along with finishing 2 x Mustangs and a big Typhoon)

I'd be quite keen to participate in this one too. Would like to build something that you are not limited by real life parameters that you do when building aircraft, afvs etc

Some kind of mecha-droid. I've always wanted to detail up something with heaps of wiring

It's a wasted trip baby. Nobody said nothing about locking horns with no Tigers.

Grover should totally put his VF-11B from Macross on hold and join this GB....

Tech question, how do you tag someone on this?

I don't think there is the ability to tag like FB here on the forums. I guess you'd email or post the link to them

I would probably give this a go too. I'l like the profusion of group builds as it helps me make up my mind what to build next. :)

This group build idea has a lot of potential, and while I've not got a particular kit or idea in mind to build, I'd be keen to see this group build go ahead because it sounds like fun.

I would definitely be up for this.
I'd also be happy to include any entries from the SW Group Build on the condition that the same entry shouldn't win both (in the name of keeping it all fair). If this is OK with everyone we could make a start and run it for say 12 months?
I just need 2 Admins
A rules blurb including start and finish date etc.
Something to use as a picture to represent the build (happy to sort this myself).

I wonder if including all four genres is a bit broad for one GB.
While Sci-fi, Bio-Mech and SteamPunk could probably be incorporated quite easily, could "Fantasy" being a massive area in itself do with it's own build?

I also like the idea of a long running event thru toward Xmas next year.. If Fantasy had it's own GB then maybe it could run to say August to stagger end dates a bit?

I'd be happy to have a go at co-administrating a build if that's helpful

Replied by 1/35th Battalion on topic GB Possibility - Sci-Fi / Fantasy / Steam Punk / Bio-Mech
I'd probably be More interested in this GB than the Desert Storm one to be honest, although have nothing in the stash for either :P
I'd also be happy to assist on admin of this one should that be required.

D1

Edit: And dropping the "Fantasy" out might be a good idea too, simply to narrow the 'genre' down and make judging overall easier.

On the Bench:
Tamiya 1/24 Alfa Romeo 155 V6 TI (1993 DTM) - "Built to Race" GB
Revell 1/24 '77 GMC Sierra 1500 4x4 - getting the "Mad-Maxed" treatment - moving to the "Diorama" GB

Don't let someone dim your light simply because it's shinning in their eyes !

Well, to my own surprise - I'd be interested in joining in.
Up till a few months ago I have had zero interest in the Sci-Fi / Fantasy / Steam Punk / Bio-Mech areas of modelling, however after having a look around at various websites etc. I'm starting to warm to these genre, might be the fact that these areas allow for more creativity and would allow me to step away from the mind-numbing quest to create "accurate" scale models.
Cheers for suggesting this GB Possibility.

I think if we narrowed the word Fantasy down to it's proper genre of Swords and Sorcery then we'll be fine.
If you look on the shelves in any good bookshop the Sci-Fi & Fantasy are always on the same shelf and to be honest there isn't a great deal on offer for true Fantasy so incorporating it in to this subject would be great for anyone who may have one of the large resin/vinyl figures to build
Executive decision here, I think we'll go with the title of....................... drum roll
Sci-Fi and & Fantasy Group Build
This shouldn't include "what if's" unless it's total fantasy, so a Typhoon in Japanese markings wouldn't fit but a Tiger Tank crossed with a Typhoon would ;)
So usual story.....
Two Moderators
Some Rules
Start/End dates and I'll do the donkey work.

So many mecha/anime kits in the stash screaming to be built.

Quick Update "Sci-Fi and Fantasy" Group Build
Kane (Grover) and I will be guiding this build along. Start date 15 Dec 2015 through to 15 Oct 2016. We've decided to keep it separate from the current SW build but obviously SW subjects can be built for this one within the above dates. A GB thread will be added once we nail down other specifics. Meanwhile get your creative caps on and think about what you want to build. Should be fun! :)

Awesome project Roger! LoOk forward to seeing it come together :)

At last estimate there are about 2.6 billion subject options for this GB. The basic criteria is that it not be 'realistic' which leaves it pretty wide open.and a great chance to experiment with something new or try an idea you've pondered for a while....
Feel free to ask any questions or post suggestions / pics etc

Have attached a few pics for inspiration...

I want to play NOW!!!
But I suppose it is helping me finish what I've got on the go already (I've not mentioned the 1/72 half track that fell open on the desk last night, some of the bits just fell off the sprue, so I had to glue them so as not to lose them  )

I think I will be taking my inspiration from previous entries in the Gunpla Builders World Cup

2015 - www.gunjap.net/site/?p=264586
2011 - www.gunjap.net/site/?p=42131

not to this level but something with water.

Gary that is a great bit of scratch building and excellent use of spare parts!

Webby, awesome subject choice! And I'm loving the idea of incorporating water!
