Thanks guys

Elliott, go to the rules page for this GB. There you will find a file which you can copy 'n paste into some other doc and print off. The image you use in your posts must be a printed version and not a digital copy inserted. SoWotchagonnabuildthen? :silly:

Glen, I'll be building two jeeps which will be kitted out differently from one another as far as rear stowage and weapons fit goes. Wheels 'n tyres too.. The rest of the stowage will be a mix of Tamiya, Legend, Black Dog and Academy with PE detailing from E.T. Model, Black Dog and Legend Productions. There will be four SAS Crew members in the scene and I will be chosing them and/or modifying them from a selection out of the Tamiya SAS Jeep sets, the Verlinden SAS Jeep Crew set, the Legend British SAS set and at lest a possible two from the Master Box LRDG Crew set. So effectively 10 figures from which to create four. I guess there'll be some left over for another day
The scene will now also include a wrecked Kubelwagen, a Rubble wall remnant on a slight rise and an Arab on a Donkey.

Lots to do . . . :woohoo:

Wow, that is awesome detail work! You must have exceptional eyesight? Or was it you recommended a magnifying glasses? If so, can you let me know what brand and where you got them? .... I want some! It's really great watching this build. It's got all the ingredients: great subject, components, build detail and creativity. Love it.

Thanks Guys. A LOOOOOOOOONG Way to go yet

I Forgot some of the wee detail stuff I had been doing.

Here is my first ever PE Workings . . . Slighty stuffed the ammo box lid as I didn't realise that the opposite side of the Steel straight edge I was using as the former had a rounded edge and one side didn't fold proper like. It took me ages to figure out what had happened. Although I have pressed the offending edge back down, it is still obvious at this proximity, but shouldn't be once painted.

Hey Wally, Try these: www.trademe.co.nz/crafts/scrapbooking/to...uction-539399528.htm
It's what I use. And this is where i got mine from. I wear prescription specs for reading/close work anyway and these go right over those too, Flammin' brilliant.

I don't really mean it. The detail is fantastic and I'm definitely not surrendering.

Cheers for the comments chaps.

A wee bit more happening here. OOh look, Paint beginnings :P

This is all Tamiya Acrylics. Base coat was OD, Then Dark Yellow, Then Desert Yellow. Just for some colour variance and depth to offer for weathering and scratches etc. Have not top coated everything with the desert yellow to allow for more variance again.

Another quick update.

Progress is slow, not like the drying of paint, which is happening on the brush before I get to the model. Frustrating!

Not a lot to see but more detailing and finally got my first photo etch complete. See the ammo carrier and box. Still need to paint the .50 cal ammo tho. Anyone got some decent 1/35th Fifty cal ammo belts? The ammo tensioner on top actually pivots so I can get the belt out.
The Fifty is mounted on a Legend resin Stanchion (the main upright) and a Black Dog resin pivot bracket, both of which I have adapted for strength by drilling out the original resin pins and replacing them with brass rod.
Although not visible in the image here, the resin front wheels did not mount well to the Tamiya kit so I drilled out the axle mounts and made 0.75mm shims from the Tamiya hubs and joined it all together. Worked a treat. Other than the AK Interactive "Chipping compound", all paints are Tamiya Acrylics, in many instances mixed to suit. Still HEAPS to do.

Happy Holidays Everyone :woohoo:

David

Just thought I'd drop in a couple of reference images. They are very rare.
I am basing the current jeep I'm working on loosely around the first vehicle shown as there are very few images of these vehicles in the North Afrika campaign. I have managed to find six different pictures from out of my own library, our very well resourced city library and the world wide web. Not much when you consider the history of the SAS.
This, and several other similarly equipped jeeps where referred to as the "Heavies". I guess you can understand why

Just been bashing this thing around some. I think I need to tone it down maybe a little bit.
I'm just playing with the idea of the WD Oil Can on the front bumper. I have seen a couple of shot with boxes and cans tied there. I have also added a German oil can behind the passenger seat, similar to that in the first two images above.

Yup. About 48 US Gallons of Gasoline in jerry cans, the 15 gallons in the tank, plus two or more jerry cans of potable water plus engine oil, weapons oils and cleaning kits, ammunition, explosives/mines, personal weapons, Vehicular weapons, personal kit, sleeping, camping and eating equipment, tarps, camo nets, sand channels, backpacks and webbing, two and sometimes three spare wheel/tyres, jack and vehicle tools, at least one shovel and whatever they may have purloined off the Italians or Germans. And of course they usually carried two men. At least one vehicle in each patrol was also carrying long range radio equipment. Now that's loaded... They were equipped with an additional heavy duty leaf spring and heavy duty shock absorbers, not standard issue. There are reports of vehicles returning from patrol in which a number of jeeps had been lost and one or two might come back into the forward base camp carrying eight or, in one instance, twelve men and running on bare rims. :S

Most folk really don't know just how lucky we are.
