After realising that Kane's (Xtr3meNZer) next build was going to be a Cobra, we got talking, further discussion resulted in us finding out that we are both planning, for our next builds, to build the Revell 1/48 scale AH-1F Cobra. Then Kane suggested a double build just like with the 2 B-29's under construction, which I thought is a neat idea too, so while we are building the exact same kit, the paint scheme will be slightly different. My intention is to build it with the teeth (like on the box below) and he is planning to build it with the snake down the side (like in front of the box below). Both kits will be built OOB and have the same base colour but with different decals. I have my wedding and honeymoon fast approaching and his Hudson hornet is almost complete but we both plan to start before the end of March. So watch this space as this double build gets going...

Edit: grover is now joining in so our double build has turned into a triple build, or triple thread, threesome just seems wrong lol

In the build:
3x 1/24 Subaru rally cars
1/35 AH-6J Little bird
1/48 AH-1W Cobra

Thanks for posting this up Hadley :) Yup, going to be very cool making these up, and with the different decals. Will be awesome to hopefully see them both at Cambridge as well ;)

I should, without any big problems from my Hudson, be able to start this next week :)

Stay tuned.

I think the dual build under one topic works quite well with the B-29's. Plenty going on and lots of updates makes for interesting reading, so this chopper topic will be more of the same I expect. Looking forward to seeing you guys start.

I look at the title and keep seeing the lyrics to Frankie Goes to Hollywood song "When two tribe go to war, blah blah" :P
With all this talk of helicopters I actually dragged my 1/35 Dragon Huey off the shelf and opened it to sniff the plastic.....

Hopefully it turns up tomorrow. I was thinking I would do it in the same scheme as Haley but without the shark teeth. Wills ee when it gets here but looking at starting straight away.

Sweet, that will be us K1 - as I will be finished the Hudson, though I might not start properly until next week, as Fridays through the weekends I don't get much of a chance.

Hadley may need to change the Title now :P

Hudson was finished last night :D Pretty happy with the out come, and pics will come later today, as I didn't want to take crappy pics in the dark...

Soo... while we're watching "How to make a murderer" tonight, I think I might break open the box, get some sprue shots, and get this model underway!

K1, hopefully your kit arrives today :)

Yup, kit turned up. The box was a little crushed which has caused some breakages in the seats, but I should be able to fix them.

I know this is an older kit but it has some nice detail. It also has some large ejector pin marks that will need taking care of
File Attachment:

And a copyright stamp on the underside that will be a challenge to remove without removing the riveting detail as well. Anyone know what MMI stands for?
File Attachment:

There's also a lot of flash and some things like the rear of the rocket launcher pods where the left one is moulded beautifully but the right one is rough as guts. Not sure how I will clean that up yet
File Attachment:

So now I'm looking through photos of the real helo to see how to paint her up. It shouldn't actually be too long a build, so I'm looking forward to seeing all 3 progress. Hadley, make sure your wedding comes first though mate ;)

Hmm... I'll have to check out my rocket pods to see if they're that bad lol. I haven't really had too good a look at the insides of this kit yet. I'll post up some sprue shots tonight also :)

Cheers G2. I didn't even think about Roman numerals.

I had a look at the clear parts and they look ok but there are a few scratches on it that I gave a quick buff
File Attachment:

I dipped the parts in Klear and will leave it to dry for a few days before masking
File Attachment:

I have taken a bunch of the parts off the sprues to test fit. I had to sand a bit of the engine to allow the rotor head to turn freely. I'm wondering the best way to mask the engine when it's in the body of the helo. I think there's going to be a lot of test fitting.

That is pretty ratshit moulding. Where the heck was QC when those parts where being scrutinized?

Be interesting to see if Hadley's kit is the same. I'd be emailing Revell and asking for a replacement...

It's a little pretty old kit Andrew. 1986. I'm amazed at the details it does have.

Hey guys, what are you going to be using for "Anthracite grey"? The interior of the cockpit main colour. I'm thinking like a dark/neutral gray...

Yeah I was doing to use a mid/dark grey, under nato-black instrument panels.

This is about where I got to tonight. A lot of the major pieces are removed from the sprue, and cleaned up. Didn't want to paint anything tonight until I had figured out the colours. Will hopefully get some paint on it all this weekend.

K1 - Yeah, I was thinking like Neutral Gray or Dark Gray, and just black for the instrument panels. What's the difference between black and nato black?

After all the emails notifications I just had to come have a quick look at this thread. Awesome work guys, pity about the rocket pods, I'll check mine out and check out what spares I have from other kits. Might be something spare from my ah-1z build but can't remember.
Grover: if the kit is damaged talk to mighty ape, they will be able to sort a replacement or something because they could claim for it through the courier company, that's if you can't fix it etc
Will see how I go for time, if I get a chance Monday I'll try pull the box out for photos, that's if the mrs isnt looking haha
I'll be on and off this for the next 10 days so I know I'll have some catchup to do when I'm back. Good luck guys

A very nice thread beginning here. The rear of those rocket launchers is very ordinary. Almost old Airfix like.
