Heli GB: 1/32 BK117 - Westpac Rescue was created by Hadley
For the Helicopter Group Build I've decided to build a model of Hamilton's latest rescue helicopter.
Previously the Bell 222 was the main machine, which they have had for around 30 years, but as rules and regulations change, the need for an updated machine was due. The Bell 222 is still used as the backup machine, rego is ZK-HZQ
The new helicopter is known simply as a BK117. Over the years it's had a few different manufacturer names, starting as MBB (like the BO105), also made by Kawasaki, and up to recently Eurocopter, but Eurocopter has now become Airbus Helicopters, just like Aerospatiale become Eurocopter, but anyway. So I will be building the BK117, the main sponsor is Westpac which is why it's red and yellow.
Rego is ZK-IRU

The kit is a 1/32 scale made by Revell, I will be using Tamiya acrylic paints and plan to use decals from John at Oldmodeldecals once I hear back from him.
I bought the kit from Steve just before he closed "Steve's model shop" in Papakura, mso I've had it a while and I have planned to build this as ZK-IRU since I got it, so looking forward to this.

The decals which most of won't be used

In the build:
3x 1/24 Subaru rally cars
1/35 AH-6J Little bird
1/48 AH-1W Cobra

Had a quick look and that's looking good, clearly his will be an exact scale replica once it's done, I don't have the time or patience for that sort of thing. Would be keen to see it completed, so when it is...in a few years lol then let me know please

Mean while, today's progress

Fuselage was sprayed white over the weekend, and rumour has it that the cockpit actually has its front seats in and next step is joining the fuselage pieces together
I got a sinker from dad and have superglued it in the gap in front of the instrument panel, instructions said I need to add like 20g and thought a sinker will be enough...seems heavy enough

Probably got my vote already Hadley, just because of the subject.
Nice start ... a la Usain Bolt out of the blocks! Seriously good control panel that.
If I can get a Sikorsky S-76, find time, decals and build it as a NEST Rescue Chopper I'll vote for me.
Dealt directly with Helimed 3 yesterday.
Landed on a pin-head in someone's (large-ish) front yard, trees all around.
You can prob'ly do it yourself?
Seen them land one in space between a fence and a marae building I estimated large enough for a medium sized truck, at night!
These guys back-up remote rural ambulances like ours with support beyond compare.
I'm biased.
YOU GO DUDE!!!

Taken a while back, Windows masked and attached, with rear window hole cut out

The last 48 hours...
Finally did some more work on this, couldn't be bothered with the rear windows as nothing I tried had worked but did a slightly different method as planned and now have rear windows in place.
Then masked, sprayed black on both sides, added an extra masking where the rear window outline will be, then primered White on the outside.
Assembled the engine area, joined the fuselage with interior and attached the engine area.
A heap of filling and sanding was done after this pic as the gap was super annoying.

And this is tonight's progress, attached front window, skids and tail section

Here you get an idea of the sanding needed to get the result I was happy with, obviously sanding removed the white primer layer hence the colours underneath

Looking good so far Hadley. The link Moeggo shared, Anthony (the guy building it) I'm sure he has been on here before, but not for a while...

In Soviet Russia, Iron Curtain GB builds you!

This is how she sat like a month ago, was ready for painting

Rotors assembled, and winch and tail rotor painted and assembled

Finally managed to do some more lately, been settling into the new place but still wanted to get some of this done
As it was the other night...

Planning to work on it tomorrow as I have a day off, painting is nearly complete but as she sits now it's red and yellow and has black skids :-)
So if tomorrow goes to plan I will finish painting and apply the glosscoat...then you'll see a photo update

Sorry for the delay, realised I had a bit more painting than I thought, however, painting is done, next chance I get will be the glosscoat

Then I will sort the winch

Since my last post I have applied a glosscote, decals and another glosscote, it then went straight over to the real helicopters hangar (on the 7th of March) ready for their open day back on the 13th of March. I've only managed to get back over their today due to the wedding, honeymoon and getting back into work, etc. So tomorrow I will add the final 2 decals (which were wrong on the decal sheets so had to get it fixed and resent) then will do another glosscote over that area.
Then will get some photos up of it fully complete
But here's how it looked when I dropped it off...
