Potential GB - Helicopters was created by Hadley
It had to be done B)
Super keen for a helicopter GB of some sort, and I know there's a few of you with helicopter kits or would be keen to build one
Even a NZ group build where we build something that's in NZ, after all it is kiwi modeller
If no Heli GB then I'm always keen to know what helicopter I could build that would qualify for other GB's

EDIT: I'm think a start date of like now lol, so I can get started. With an end date in say 6 months or so?

In the build:
3x 1/24 Subaru rally cars
1/35 AH-6J Little bird
1/48 AH-1W Cobra

Trick question Hadley, does the V-22 Ospray counts as a helicopter? I am in if it does B)

I'm in. I have a 1/48 Huey which I would like to build. Plan on donating it to my local RSA depicting one in the Vietnam war. Have a little dio planned, but finding it very hard to find 1/48 figures that would go with it...

Anyway, I'm in, will give me an excuse to build one!

Ohh Ian, who makes a Sea Knight and is it available in 1:48? I'll be in with 2 grins. I would keep it open to all helos, or maybe open it a little more and call it a VTOL GB? That can include the Osprey, Harriers, Flogger etc, and could even include some rare planes like the Pogo?
I have 2 helos in the stash at the moment. An Apache I looked at starting, but just took a few parts off sprues and the Helix. I really want to get some more in the stash too.

I'd probably be a starter, but I like grover's idea of making it a VTOL GB too.

I think so... there will be some research into it... I know they were over in the Island at some point, whether it be Indonesia, Malaysia or Vietnam... I'm sure someone on here would have much better knowledge than myself... I just remember talking with one of the locals, and he gave me this image and idea of what we wanted to do... He could have been talking about somewhere else, but that was the impression I got.

Academy do a Sea Knight in 1/48, I even think Hobby City has one available on their clearance shelf, or at least they did last time I was there. Supposed to be a pretty good kit too from what I hear.
I'll no doubt be in, since I have heaps of helo kits, I like the idea of making it anything VTOL though, since helo's will still count.
Jackielinz, Osprey would definitely count as a helo, it can't really take off like an aircraft since the props are too big...

In Soviet Russia, Iron Curtain GB builds you!

Academy do it in three versions (A, C, D). I have this version, and the decals to do the USMC Rescue bird are in the box. Looks like a superb kit, I was planning to build it this season anyways, but if the GB goes ahead, then there's even more reason to start cutting plastic !!

Surely the Osprey is a fixed wing aircraft with rotational engines/rotors and therefore an aircraft? Just saying..........

Smart ass! I would challenge that and say it can hover in place, which most fixed wing aircraft cannot do, so that makes it firmly in the helo camp. Obviously the harrier, f35, yak38 and yak141 are exceptions to this rule, which is why I think calling it the VTOL GB would be better, that is, anything that can take off and land vertically counts.

No. We had pilots that flew with the Australians (9SQN RAAF). I know we also had pilots that flew with the Americans, but don't think they flew helicopters with the Americans but rather as FACs.

I'd be interested in a Rotor craft GB. Ospreys would be fine because they have two rotors allowing VTOL.

The only problem is there seems to be so many GBs happening at the same time, all with interesting topics, but the time available to me means I could only build in about two of them. If they all ran for a year it wouldn't be so bad.

Not cheap :-(
The next kit I buy will probably be the kitty hawk SH-2G.
And if I was to spend more on a kit I'd look at the CH-53E....not yet though lol

I see the osprey as a helicopter capable of plane like speeds, hence the tilt rotor, I do believe it was designed from a helicopter to start with.
Plus they are built from helicopter companies...Bell, etc
The F35 etc are jets with rotating nozzles, a jet designed to be able to take off vertically...

And I would like to be moderator if this goes ahead please

Bell was a plane company long before the advent of Helichoppers ;)

I'd be fine with it starting now, but I think with the amount of GBs (Star Wars, Sci-Fi) started and starting (WWI, NASCAR, Tomcat and Desert Storm), you may want to push the build time out to a year?

Yeah I think a longer build time but maybe have a look at when others are finishing and choose a month that's empty?
I'd also be keener to make it a VTOL GB, just to open it up a bit, but if its just Helos I would still be in on the build. Hopefully I'll be in a position to keep modelling over the next 6 months.

If I can get hold of the Kitty Hawk SH-2G and if it can be made as an NZ or I, then I'll probably join this.

I'm sure some of you will be interested in what needs doing to build an RNZAF aircraft from that kit.
