This group build is to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain. It will run from 10th of July to 31st of October, 2015, following the dates of the battle.

The build is open to any scale and any subject that played a role in the Battle of Britain. While the Battle of Britain is foremost remembered as an air battle, builds including figures (e.g. famous historical figures from the battle), vehicles and armour (e.g. AA guns) and dioramas (e.g. airfield dioramas) are eligible provided a documented link can be established.

The model must be built entirely within the build dates to qualify, and the build should be accompanied by a thread in the group build forum documenting regular progress. Post your sprues at the beginning of the thread! By the end of the group build (and no later than 24 hours after the completion date) participants should post five pictures of the completed build in the group build forum which will be organised shortly.

To discourage cynical entries the build is open only to those who have been members of KiwiModeller for two months at the start of the group build and with at least thirty posts in the forums. So lurkers, get posting now if you want to enter! I will also vet for cynical or “gaming” entries and vote rigging.

No entry fee will be charged, but this is a good opportunity to make a donation to the upkeep of KiwiModeller.

The winner of the group build will be decided by popular vote. Voting will run for the week following the 1st of November, ending Midday the 8th of November. A deadlock will be decided by a separate run-off vote.

Thanks guys :) I've got a bit further on the cockpit and made a start on the engine. The engine has had a few fit issues for me and have spent a bit of time cutting, filing etc to get bits to fit.
Placing the engine beside the pilot seat makes me realise how large these power plants are. Must have been very noisy for the pilot tucked in behind.

Now I just have to concoct a viable story to be able to slip this beast into the picture! :woohoo:

I think I saw those kits a long while back on the KM facebook page... am I right?

Yeah I often get surprised by a few things while I build a model, such as you have with the engine. I looked at the 110C compared to my F15-C and realised how massive jets are nowadays, compared to the aircraft in WWII.

I had similar issues with the engine also PJ...and with fitting it into the mounts and am now having issues fitting it into the fuselage....just take your time mate you will come out the other side. On mine you can't fit the upper cowl with the engine in ... there is provision in the instructions to build without the engine... I was hoping I could just pop it on and off! :S

I was reading a build thread at britmoddeler and they had the same issue with the engine. I was looking for ideas for my build but it was a 1:32 as well. The guy ended up sanding down some of the engine parts

Thanks for the feedback guys.
The only other Eduard kit Ive experienced was the little albatros and the fit was over-all very good. So I was surprised by some of the engine misfits here. And yet the cockpit parts fit nicely - interesting huh. Yep sanding and filing as required! :)

I posted a new thread about this mono bike 888Hornet. It's pretty cool!

Just a heads up..having trouble with the front end and trying to get the fuselage halves together...hopefully its something I've done and not a kit issue! Cause I was 5mins from throwing it against the wall!!

Thanks K1 for that thread very helpful and an exceptionally comprehensive build log! I'll use it as reference for sure.

K2 thanks for the heads up it will save me a lot of frustration for sure. I had been thinking I'd quite like to pose the plane flying rather than on the ground. I guess that could bypass a lot of engine and front fuselage fit issues too if I chose to leave engine out

I think it's useful for us building 1:48 kits too as it seems the mechanics of the engine options are essentially the same.

Battle fatigue Tony? Has this young guy already flown too many missions - seen too much carnage and lost too many friends...traumatic stress?
I'm thinking I'm gonna try and create a flying pose where the pilot is looking to starboard as he turns and begins a dives upon an unsuspecting Spitfire that he has spotted below....

That figure really helps bring it to life. Will be great seeing it all together as you have envisioned it. Though it is a shame that he will be in the way of all the instrument work you done on the cockpit there...
