This group build is to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain. It will run from 10th of July to 31st of October, 2015, following the dates of the battle.

The build is open to any scale and any subject that played a role in the Battle of Britain. While the Battle of Britain is foremost remembered as an air battle, builds including figures (e.g. famous historical figures from the battle), vehicles and armour (e.g. AA guns) and dioramas (e.g. airfield dioramas) are eligible provided a documented link can be established.

The model must be built entirely within the build dates to qualify, and the build should be accompanied by a thread in the group build forum documenting regular progress. Post your sprues at the beginning of the thread! By the end of the group build (and no later than 24 hours after the completion date) participants should post five pictures of the completed build in the group build forum which will be organised shortly.

To discourage cynical entries the build is open only to those who have been members of KiwiModeller for two months at the start of the group build and with at least thirty posts in the forums. So lurkers, get posting now if you want to enter! I will also vet for cynical or “gaming” entries and vote rigging.

No entry fee will be charged, but this is a good opportunity to make a donation to the upkeep of KiwiModeller.

The winner of the group build will be decided by popular vote. Voting will run for the week following the 1st of November, ending Midday the 8th of November. A deadlock will be decided by a separate run-off vote.

I've never mounted anything like this either, so I can't help sorry. Brass rod and a nice wooden base would exude a certain charm though. B)

Cheers guys, I've still got the notion to try painting a sky backdrop to set the plane against so ideally want the stand or suspension mechanism to be as discreet as possible. I strung it up to my lamp to get an idea of the pose I'm after. It's supposed to be the moment of entry into a dive attack...

maybe a clear acrylic pillar is the best idea?

She is looking great.

Are you going to be mounting it in a box, or just against a backdrop? Clear perspex box you could hang it with Nylon, though the lines will be quite visible... otherwise you might have to drill into the fuselage to get it sitting how you want...

Cheers guys, an acrylic stand is a good option. I hadn't even thought of a clear perspex box and suspending it from the roof - that sounds pretty cool. In that case 1,2 or 3 inside walls could be a painted backdrop yeah? It might be n option for another plane build as I won;t have time to make it before end date this time.
For photography purposes I think I'll try suspending plane in front of a sky backdrop, or else against a blue sheet and then PS a background in. Meanwhile I'm still procrastinating on painting exhaust stains - hopefully the airbrushing elves with visit while I'm fast asleep...

That was one I built a while ago as a muck around... I had the two aircraft, and just went for it. Not historically accurate, but works for me :)

I found the link .

This is one while I was building it...

I can't edit this thread so can't put those extra photos into the body of the post. Very effective shots and excellent blue nail polish. God bless her assistance!

Yeah Jackie's quite supportive of me building miniature things out of plastic - mostly! ;)

Sprayed some exhaust stains on this afternoon. Next I'll paint and attach rear wheel and then getting pretty close to done..

Adjusted the shape of the exhaust stains a bit, and made them more grungy and account for pilot and crew marks...
Nearly there now...

Check out this freaky pic - The blue sheet is on the floor and the plane is suspended above it by mono filament tied to broom stick! Looks like a poster eh!

Cheers guys :)
I've got a bunch of shots so have to narrow it down to 5. Is there any method to choosing what type of photo to use in the final 5, like certain angles etc that are expected to be seen? I've got a busy next couple days so doubt I will get to create a painted sky backdrop before Saturday but the plane is done.
