Taylor made me do it. Here is where it got to some years ago. Tamiya kit fully rescribed with Cutting Edge cockpit and lots of scratchbuilding to bring it up to date.

Kit exhausts painted (my early drybrush everything metallic phase), resin copies of the kits rubber tires and a pair of Flightpath USN pilots

Some of the earlier detailing and mods

Since then, I have stripped all the splinter camo, added rear fuselage resin from the Aires GE100 engines, scratchbuilt a pair of rocket pods, modified a Trumpeter iTALD, added a LANTIRN pylon adaptor and triple ejector rack to the starboard pylon, grabbed a pair of Paveway from an Academy Hornet and Tamiya F-16, a pair of Sidewinders from the same F-16 and started a repaint.

Rocket pods, iTALD (improved Tactical Air Launched Decoy), TER

Good work there Craig. Oh no...you're really going to ditch the blue splinter NSAWC scheme???? I've always like that scheme. I saw one of those schemes with an F/A-18 Hornet in a similar scheme at the Telford Nationals one year. Really cool.

Even though I've just started my first model rework, there's something quite satisfying about it.

Awesome scheme. Really like the pics of the cats flying the big 2000lb bombs. In the bombcat role they were only limited to carrying two GBU-24s because of weight restrictions. Any other bomb they could carry the usual load of four on the belly racks.

Looking good alright. With all these big cats happening around the site, maybe when I can buy some more kits I should get my hands on one of the trumpy offerings and do an nsawc aggressor.

Craig, I fixed the post and inserted the last image of the hase boxtop artwork for you (it was bugging me having the little attachment section at the bottom and I couldn't see the pic B) )

Got the new rims and tyres cleaned up and painted. Little light weathering, but good enough for now. Compare to earlier rims to see the difference

GBU-24 with paint underway (taken from the Academy F/A-18 Hornet). Compared to pics of the real thing it's not too bad.

Current state of play with weapons (GBU-16 is from the Tamiya F-16). Sidewinders and Sparrow are in the box, but have no paint on as yet. I added the thermal coating to the GBUs using Mr Surfacer brushed on and then stippled with a flat brush as it dried. A couple of applications gives a very good texture, which was knocked back a little with some 3M Scotchbrite.

Good to see this one back on the go... The launchers going on it too? I never knew they used them. What's the missile at the bottom? Looks similar to a Taurus...

And yes all weapons going on the jet. Airshow laid out but different so it makes something unique to model

TALD was going to be my next guess... Will be good to see an airshow loadout as the current fad seems to be proper combat loadouts only...

That definitely looks very different! Any idea what the loadout was on the other side? Or was it just the smaller GBU on the other wing pylon?

Cool. Not tempted to put a AIM54 or two underneath or do they not fit when a GBU is mounted in the centreline?

Not in the slightest for so many reasons.

Never used, not often carried, not compatible once GBUs fitted and not carried by the jet shown.

Fair enough. I do remember seeing some pics of an Alpha I think carrying 6 AIM-54's for a photo op and I did like the look of it being fully loaded. One day I'll do one kitted out as such. Pity that the US Navy ROE's prevented it being used to it's full extent.

You mean like this?

This is an A+ of VF-211 Checkmates. There's a series of photos of this one jet in this configuration doing testing after upgrade with the new GE F110 engines.

I was just going to ask why an A model had B exhausts... But that explains it. I think that is the exact photo I was thinking of, although I do remember seeing a different photo with the same loadout...

The A+ and B variants is very much a grey area. With so many issues with the TF30 engines limiting the performance of the aircraft overall it resulted in the GE F110s being retro fitted to many early and late A models. Eventually all A+ models became declared as B models and were then upgraded again in the late 80s/90s for the air to ground strike role thanks to the system installation of the Lantirn pod.

Was thinking I might paint white backing rectangles for the warning blocks, but the ALPS will print the white and black in high fidelity no problem.

It’s more the red areas that I’ll probably make the masks for, as red printing tends to be quite pixelated on most printers
