Ace 1/72 FV-101 Scorpion - QAMR was created by Craig Sargent
As promised, here are some in progress shots of the Scorpion. Still a long way to go and quite a bit of detailing needed.

Turret mostly assembled. Still some detail work to do and plan to rebuild the smoke grenade launchers as they are a bit basic. Drilled out the barrel, but so far straight from the box. Hard to photograph white, so apologies for pics.

Turret, upper chassis and lower chassis just sitting together for now. Made some minor mods to the upper chassis and have started scratchbuilding the exhaust (can be seen just under the side turret basket), which will get covered with some mesh later. Kit part is solid and not very convincing.

To ease assembly, I removed the sections of the area under the skirts from the lower chassis. This allowed me to get a nice flat surface so I don't have an awkward join later. You can see where they were removed from the lower hull, and the Tamiya Light Curing Putty used to fix the join between the parts of the lower chassis.

And finally size comparison with a 1/72 Spitfire - this is a small vehicle.

Nah, once annealed they should be pretty workable and being metal act reasonably realistically. They'll only be rage-inducing if I don't fix them to the base

Thats looking great Craig. I spent four years in Waiouru and spent many a day envious of the QAMR guys all warm and dry in their "Scorps" as we were huddled in the mud in an OP freezing our asses off lol

Yup that Scorpion brings back memories. Snug and cosy Comms shelters powered by that big 'ol genny on the trailer. Us Sigs guys often had it sweet. That genny powered the heaters in our tents too  :woohoo: which was especially nice halfway up the side of Ruapehu mid winter

Watching this build with interest Craig

Time to get back to this. Haven't finished any armour in a long time and John has inspired me to finish something. Finally getting around to the fun part - the tracks. These actually are better than I thought. They fold easily, fit perfectly, and hold sag/tension nicely. I've start working on fitting the Wee Friends crew and adding finer detail as well as some of the missing bits.

Fitting first track section

Quick wash to highlight some of the detail to help with adding missing items. Added some smoke grenades from the spares and some stretched sprue to represent hinges, bolts, etc. Still a way to go yet. Here is the driver and tank commander ready to be fitted. Just need to clean them up and get them painted.

Added stowage and some small detail parts. Missing bolt heads added to hull and turret. Few more details, including weld beads to add and then it will be ready for the paint shop. Compare to previous image.

Adding some rear hull and rear turret details as well as scratch building a new exhaust. Mud flaps and details added, rear edge of tarp fixed then some tie down points and tie down cord added. Still more to go yet. Think I'm still having fun.

It's a nice little kit, but a bit of a blank canvas compared to the real thing. Lends itself for lots of nice additions which should really lift the final model. Compared to the old Airfix kit in 1/72, this is a much better starting point. But I really want to get everything done so I can get on to the painting, but still so much to add.

And I'll make a start on a section of the Plateau for the base to show it in it's element. Still not sure if I'll add any snow or not yet. Thinking tundra, grasses and maybe some scoria. If I get keen maybe something with some flowers and maybe a relevant piece of wildlife.

To me, it would be wrong in anything other than the standard Army MERDC.
