× 2018 is the Centenary of the formation of the Royal Air Force on the 1st of April, 1918. The build will run until February 1st 2019 and is open to any scale and any subject that represented the RAF, including aircraft, ground vehicles and equipment, or RAF personnel.
Ideally the model must be built in its entirety within the specified build dates and the build, but kits that have been part started can be entered at the discretion of the group build leader.
The build should be accompanied by a thread in the group build forum documenting regular progress. Post shots of your sprues or the current state of the build at the beginning of your thread.
By the end of the GB (and no later than 24 hours after the completion date) participants should post five pictures of the completed build in the GB completed builds thread.
There is no entry fee for the GB, but a donation for the upkeep of Kiwimodeller is always welcome.
Entrants who complete a build, post their completed pictures and reside in New Zealand will enter a draw to win a prize (Prize to be advised; one draw entry per person; entrant must reside in New Zealand to qualify for entrance in to the prize draw).

I think your desert pink is a bit to dark.. It seemed to fade really quickly from that darker shade to the lighter shade from all the images I've seen.

From memory It only really faded on the surfaces that came in to contact with sunlight for long periods of time, there was a fair amount of scouring from weather conditions and sand etc but most of the bleaching was on the upper surfaces. That colour isn't a bad match for the base colour maybe a bit lighter/pinker for the undersides and definately a lot lighter for the faded areas but you could lighten it as per the real deal.
Just my 2 cents.

Note that the GR.1 was different in a few key areas to the ECR. Not sure Revell give you all the necessary bits in the box Main areas of note are the tail, the underfuselage outer pylons, gun arrangement and lack of bolt on external chaff/flare buckets that the Op Granby Tonkas had. There are others, but those are the main ones. Does the ECR kit have the larger underwing "Hindenberger" drop tanks in it?

Hi all thanks for the advice, yeah i do think its a bit dark i will get some flat white in there and fade down.

I was hoping you'd weigh in Craig with you knowledge of the Tonka, and i do know the ECR version is different. i plan to make some mods to the tail and it does have the outer pylons. i have looked at after market chaff/flare but the kit comes with the BOZ107 pod.

not sure about the tanks they don't look that big maybe 350's??

Craig the main difference i see between the ECR and GR1 tail are the aerial "fillets" on the top (GR1 has them ECR does not). is there anything else i'm missing?

Fin needs radar warning fairing added to the leading edge and VOR/ILS blade antennae added to the sides
Looks like kit has openings for both guns so that is easy. Both Mausers fitted to GR.1, but not all ECR
Underrfuselage pylons do not use sway braces on GR.1, but crutching pads. These are also in different places to the sway braces. You can see them above the bombs in your photo of Enola Kay
BOZ is included in the kit, but you'll need to find a SkyShadow. In addition to the BOZ pod, there were chaff flare dispensers scabbed on under the rear fuselage for Granby.
Antennae were different.
You also need to add the LRMTS chin pod for the GR.1

Those are the main ones. There were some cockpit differences, but probably not worth worrrying about.

Yeah Craig's a geek, he knows all the fiddly bits and bobs, I'm just working from memory of seeing these things lined up. I have no idea what the pokey out bits :)

Nothing the layman is going to notice and not worth the effort to change. Let me know if you are really concerned, but I'd use the IDS cockpit and call it good.

Pretty sure the Hindenburg tanks are only in the RAF GR1 boxing [hence the price of that boxing :(]
Flightpath do a set of tanks if needed/wanted :) www.djparkins.com/product.php?productid=17742

Some surgery needed to fit the Aires pit.

Fits nicely but man those razor saws go through flesh quick! there was much more blood! andi keep finding little flecks here than there.

Ok a bit of help,... i saw this in the mock-up i always do before gluing but i didn't think it would be this bad, has anybody built this kit? I've gone through the instructions a few times and not found any parts to cover the gap.

The intakes should be flush top and bottom but there is a good lip of nearly 3-4 mm depending on whether you want it top or bottom.
the only thing i can think of is card and putty - even putting bulkhead in or stretcher to widen the fuselage only reduces the gap to 2mm, i'm pretty pissed off.

Any ideas???

Glue the intakes flush at the bottom. There is a vent at the top of each intake and there should be a step and gap (just not see through - the ramps should block that).

Nice work on the pit. Not so nice on the finger.

Note there is a step you can remove from under the forward end of the Aires pit to better accommodate the nose wheel well.

You’re supposed to do the surgery on the kit not yourself. However, it fits nicely now. The detail pops out even as it is. BTW the trick with the cut is to cover it in CA straight up then you can keep modeling and sort it later. ; )

This is where i'm up to... many things to go yet!

Incidentally this was some of the smoothest flying for a long time in the windy capital! the sea fog rolling in, showing us the storm front that rolling in now. thats kapiti, stunning day for flying
