After scratching my head where to place my USMC Sherman I intend to build, I took inspiration from this pic that David (1/35 Battalion) posted

In the pic is a M4A2 of Co. C, 2nd Tank Battalion on Tinian in July 1944.

I did a bit of digging into the Battle of Tinian, and found a couple of interesting facts; Tinian was the first use of Napalm dropped via aircraft, and the two atomic bombing raids on Hiroshima and Nagasaki were launched from Tinian.

For this build, I intend to make a small diorama loosely based on the above pic. I'll be using the following;

DML M4A2 Sherman late PTO

Tank Workshop USMC M4A2 Wading Stacks

RB Model 75mm L/40 Sherman M4 barrel

RB Model .30cal barrel (x2)

Armorscale US SRC610 antenna mount

Lionmarc Sherman Brass Skids

Archer Resin Weld Beads

Archer Resin Casting Marks

I still need to get the following for the Sherman/Diorama

Bronco T54E1 tracks

Voyager M4A2 late PE

Italeri LVT(A)-2

I'll need to sort several figures too

It's a wasted trip baby. Nobody said nothing about locking horns with no Tigers.

Great idea listing your references Andrew.
Useful for others to track down info for themselves.

Thanks

Andrew, that kit is very good so check the bits before you use the after market gear, you may not gain anything by using some of them. I love these newer DML Shermans, but would love to build a Tasca one too at some point. This kit is a beauty.

Another good idea to watch. Like all the info you gathered, well done.

Update In Stash:
Lots of 1/35 Armor mainly WWII German and a few Modern British/American pieces, 1/32 Aircraft and 1/48 Aircraft. Aircraft chosen to replicate RNZAF and RAAF types through the years. Some RAF & USAF types exist also.

Andrew, don't know if you have started the Sherman yet, but take care in lining up the front drive sprockets inner and outer. Quite easy to get them just a weeny bit askew from one another as the locator blocks don't necessarily line up in the correct place. I've had to trim out one of the location inserts on the inner drum to get it to line up. And it had already been glued. That;ll teach me for not looking too closely. They don't have a secure location to really see, so double and triple check...

Now there's some handy dandy info for Shemaniholics, or is that Shermanophiles? Useful all the same, should one be wishing to accurately portray their M4 Sherman model .

Some more parts accumulation for the Sherman (and future Shermans), a big thanks to GB for giving me this :)

A ET model PE Template for drilling the holes in the bogies missing from DML (missing on Tasca Shermans too)

Andrew, If you have not yet started your sherman take note that at stage 3 the instructions suggest to trim parts A53 and A47. In dry/test fitting part A53 with A9 (Hull rear) and the two main hull parts, there doesn't seem to be any reason to do so, as all fit together just fine. If the trimming is not needed then I would imagine there is no need to do the same with the A47 parts either. Just a heads up mate.

Thanks David. I almost thought I'd be making a start tonight. I saw online that Modelair had Bronco T54E1 tracks in stock, so drove down there today only to find their stock levels are incorrect

So have ordered the tracks through Hobbyeasy, along with the Voyager Sherman OVM detail set. I've flagged getting the main Voyager PE set for this build.

Hopefully this time next week I'll be cranking into the build :woohoo:

Hey mate, why did ye nay get Bronco T54E1's from BNA Modelworld in OZ? That's where I got mine NZ$13:73 still on sale at 22% off + NZ$9:73 Shipping as of a minute before I posted this. They have a KiwiBank account and it is really easy to do direct deposit online. (especially if one also has a Kiwibank account :woohoo: ). I just email them as soon as I have paid. They repsond quite quickly and despatch straight away. Mine, plus a couple of other bits (Verlinden PE and Resin for the M4 and Figures) took five days to arrive. I find them really easy to deal with and their prices are pretty good too, most of the time. :cheer:

Come on that build !!!

Yeah, I forgot you mentioned that they were cheap at BNA. I don't normally shop there, as the shipping costs put me off.

I'll have to remember to look there to before purchasing, it looks as if their shipping costs have come down a little :woohoo:

WARNING!! WARNING!! WARNING!!! Warning Will Robinson!

I have found the reason for trimming the parts as noted in the instructions at stage three. It is so that the upper and lower hull parts fit together in the correct position to allow the space for the front hull bolt strip the correct spacing and fit. Leaves a flammin' great gap else. . . Everything at the rear appears just tickey boo. All parts fit perfectly, even the hull parts appear to fit just so . . . until one notices that the space where the bolt strip sits is WAAAY too big . . . oops :pinch:
And I had glued . . . du oh . . . :(

WARNING!! WARNING!! WARNING!!! Warning Will Robinson! Trim As Directed!!

I do so like Tamiya Extra Thin, as I have managed to save the day . . . :side:

OK, so the tracks and Voyager update to provide the straps for the pioneer tools arrived, so I thought I'd make a start.

That is when I encountered the first hiccup.

Upon opening the Tank Workshop Wading Stack set, and checking through the parts, I noticed one of the pieces was severely warped/squashed

You can see from the pics, showing the piece on the instructions how it should look, and the part I have.

Now that I've uploaded the pics from my camera, I'll be emailing Tank Workshop to see about a possible replacement. If I don't get a positive response, I'll scratchbuild using sheet styrene

I just read about it yesterday so I thought I'd better share it ;-)

So now that I've finished the Sd.Kfz.9 I thought I'd get started on this.

I made a start on the T54E1 tracks tonight. Going to be some hours there, which is just as well. I'm ordering a new Panzer Art Sherman transmission housing. The DML parts are incorrect with the bolts for the final drive being in the wrong place.

Here is a pic of the tracks. This is 10 parts to make these three links, and they are not even finished. I need to add the end connectors

So joy turned into disappointment again with this project  Got home from picking up my daughter from daycare, and in the letterbox was a parcel from Tank Workshop, I excitedly opened it expecting to see the wading stack replacement, instead there was a couple of 1/48 M4A4 Sherman conversions :pinch: Looks like they attached the wrong shipping label judging by the invoice. Fired off another email. Am waiting to see what the response is

Good Luck with the next arrival from TW ;)

I've got turned metal MG and Main Gun barrels, Paint 'n Pigments inbound from BNA.
I decided not to worry about the correct setup for the Transmission housing as its not really visible and with all the dozer parts, they should detract sufficiently for bolt counters, along with dust 'n dirt....
