K-Force - New Zealand's contribution to the Korean War.

With the defeat of Japan in 1945 and the ensuing imbalance of military power in the region, North Korea invaded South Korea in June 1950.
When the United Nations called for assistance to support the South, the New Zealand Government initially sent a frigate. In July 1950, they decreed that an artillery regiment would be sent as NZ's contribution to ground forces, and 16 Field Regiment RNZA was formed.

In 1951, the Commonwealth Division was established and 16 Field Regt became part of the Divisional Artillery along with Canadian and British field artillery regiments.
At the conclusion of the Korean War, 16 Field Regiment was disbanded. It was re-established in 1958 as part of the Regular Force Brigade Group.
The armistice was signed in July 1954, and 16 Field Regiment returned to NZ in 1955 and the last of K Force returned in 1957.

K Force consisted of:
- HQ K Force
- 16 Field Regiment, RNZA
--- 161 Battery, A Troop & B Troop
--- 162 Battery, C Troop & D Troop
--- 163 Battery, E Troop & F Troop
- Signals Troop
- Transport Platoon

This build will consist of mainly elements from 161 Battery, 16 Field Regiment RNZA, A Troop.
- Ford Quad Gun Tractors
- 25 Pounders & Limbers
- NZ LPOP (Local Pattern Observation Post) Wheeled Pattern Carrier

If time allows it will also include part of K-Force 10 Transport Company and 1st British Commonwealth Division 1st Royal Tank Regiment.
- Daimler Mk II Dingo Scout Car
- Bedford QL General Service
- Centurion Mk III

Hi David,
After seeing your post thought i had better do the same :)

I think i will struggle, but the good thing is there is only one resin kit which needs slight modification, and the rest are styrene.
No plans for photo-etch or significant scratch building so will try and concentrate on good painting & weathering...

Awesome stuff! I know very little about this subject so apart from the model making this will be great learning too.
I have a feeling this GB is really gonna fly big time!

Yep, great reference pics. That pile of ammo boxes (and beer crates?) would make excellent diorama material.

Nice thread Grant, a lot of stuff I knew sod all about. It ties in nicely with a thing I saw on Sky recently about the Commonwealth Forces, mainly Aussies & Canadians but with Kiwi Artillery support stemming a Nth Korean offensive on Seoul. Its an area I've been lacking in, time to rectify this I reckon. :)

I look forward to seeing both Grant's and D1's(1/35th Battalion) entries in this GB.

Update In Stash:
Lots of 1/35 Armor mainly WWII German and a few Modern British/American pieces, 1/32 Aircraft and 1/48 Aircraft. Aircraft chosen to replicate RNZAF and RAAF types through the years. Some RAF & USAF types exist also.

 Yeh those Quads were still in need a lot of tidy up...
One chassis now done, the other nearly there.
...and the Centurion has also made a start.
Now i know why there are so many aftermarket Mk3 turrets, haha... nothing filler wont fix.
A new type A barrel is on its way last week, other than that it will be out of the box.

A New goodie arrived in the mail today, its a IMA Resin Indian Pattern Wheeled Carrier MkIIB.

It will be converted to a NZ Pattern Wheeled Carrier.
Main changes are the shape of the front guards, and the NZ made units were welded, not rivited.
There are some other minor changes but not enought to worry about.

Well a bit a progress this weekend, even though not much to the eye...

Quad tractors - mostly done, engines in progress, but enough to use in preparation of the layout.
First Limber is nearly there, and first 25 Pdr is just started.

The Bedford QLD chassis has also been started, and the engine & radiator is done...

No work yet on the LPOP & Dingo.
Also the old Mk3 Centurion looks like it will be more work than first expected to get it up to standard, but that's all part of the fun :)
