Looking great Dave.
Nice to know about the life colour paint, might stick to the oils.
Looking forward to your finished dio.

Not the best idea to use the green background but there they are anyway.

Plenty more to do. Lead foil and PE helmet strap and weapon slings, one more figure to finish assembling and the finishing touch ups and detailing and weathering then to set the scene with the base and all the flora and ground work too. . .

Thanks for all the positive feedback so far crewmates.
Now it's getting frantic with just two weeks to go. I'm off back to the bench...

David (D1)

On the Bench:
Tamiya 1/24 Alfa Romeo 155 V6 TI (1993 DTM) - "Built to Race" GB
Revell 1/24 '77 GMC Sierra 1500 4x4 - getting the "Mad-Maxed" treatment - moving to the "Diorama" GB

Don't let someone dim your light simply because it's shinning in their eyes !

Your figures look excellent D1. The extra details you mention will really put the cherry on top.
Terrific stuff.

Well having had a heart attack a week ago I'll not be finishing my dio here anytime soon.
But I will post some pictures of the completed figures and the tank-dozer which really hasn't changed much since last posting, but WTF :woohoo:

I think with the most entries in this GB Someone else might be considered the fair winner.... ;)

When I'm able I will finish this project and post completed images. But that may be some time away :( as I may be in for vascular surgery on my right wrist.

See ya all tomorrow when I show you my completed soldier boys.

Cheers all

David

Sorry to hear of that David! You get yourself better.

On a lighter note. One of my most successful models (competition wise) was largely done with one hand 6-7 years ago. It can bring out some crazy kind of fight in you these things.. No pressure!!!!!

Get well

I second that!
Take care of your health.
You have a great diorama to come back to (or work on during recoup time).
I for one was gunning for it as a highly probable winner of the comp.
Wishing you well with the same gusto now.
Look forward to seeing your completed Marines.
Take care
Wally.

It's going to be a very long slow road apparently but I'm up for that.

Some pics to follow. These guys are near to being finished, I'm unhappy with the sheen still showing. They have one very thin coat of Humbrol Matt Clear but are still shiny. Anyone found a true Flat Clear coat?
The pictures certainly do show all the things one can improve upon and really do not do justice to the figures in the flesh.

So here they are... US Marines C Company, 1st Marine Division, Peleliu - October 1944

and the rest of the tank-dozer. I broke the aerial and it's base off moving to take these shots.

I've just used the base here to show articulation and some colour variance. It is not the base for this diorama.

Cheers everyone, When I'm able, I will finish this scene with all it's trees and ground cover and stuff, and theses troop and the dozer in place.

'Till then, happy modelling

David

The figures and Sherman Dozer look excellent. I love the stowage.
I agree, nothing like a really close-up photo to show up some blemishes and photos can seldom do the 3-dimensionality of models justice. Like alot of things really, we don't just see them we experience them. Much art is the same eh?
In my experience the BEST and only truly flat flatcoat is Testors Dullcote. I use aerosols but Gary apparently gets it in liquid form.
All the Best
Wally.

Thanks Everyone for your input and get well messages.

And a special thanks to sjr_76. Ta Steve, I did pop over (chauffered coz I ain't allowed to drive yet) to your place, had a cuppa with Lou and Keiran - Skyped with you (you looked like shit mate  ) and picked up the Hannants xtracylics Flat Varnish. Shook and stirred as advised on the bottle and brushed two figures then walked away to allow them to dry. Came back about an hour later to find two very shiny glossy soldiers. Bugger  I've given that a further 48hrs to cure and have just sprayed two very light coats with Tamiya TS80 Flat Clear from rattle can. It is as advertised :woohoo: A Beautiful FLAT coat. Very impressed. It's exactly as a flat coat should be so I will use that well into the future I think.

Cheers All

PS. I've just had the pressure strapping off my arm and one week after the bleed began it has now stopped. YAY!!! The arm is sore and black 'n blue but I've got it back and have some further use of it. Still have to take everything very quietly. Run out of energy easily after having done the simplest of activities, so steady and slow ahead...

Good to hear you are on the mend, Dave. Certainly knocks you for six when something like this happens and it makes you appreciate the little things a lot more and not take everything for granted.
Figures are looking pretty mint too!

Get well soon mate, shame you can't get chauffeured down for a day at Armistice. It's a shame Manawatu MC can't come now, I think I've reallocated the tables so shouldn't be too much of a hole in the displays.
