I don't see mainland Japan on the map you have posted in the rules section. Does that mean that anything that operated or is operating on mainland Japan is discounted from this group build?

Yeh i thought the map may have been a little higher up as well.
Just means a small change in plans with more digging around in my stash and goodies on the way will need to wait for a rainy day. :)

 Question: Would i be allowed to use my Malayan thread/build in this group build?
www.kiwimodeller.com/index.php/forum/40-...ergency?limitstart=0

The only stuff done so far is a Ferret which was started ~last week... plus all the information gathering...
(a big NO reply would be fully understood :))

Normally not, but as you have so much other stuff I'm happy to let it slide on this occasion ;)
Just stop any work you're doing on it until the official start, then post pictures with the new build logo.
Talking of build logos, no Photoshopping the logo in to your builds this time lads you know who I'm talking about....... G2 :P

I forgot to include the Korean conflict so I've updated the map to include Korea which happens to also bring mainland Japan in to scope. I've also come South a bit to include Darwin as this was a big area of concern for Australia during the war. This is the last change I'm really willing to make unless there is good cause (like missing Korea), if we increase the scope any further we might as well just slap a globe up and say build what you want.

Gazzer PMed :woohoo:

Gary where/when will the logo be available to download please? Unless we be using the same one as the last build which I already have.

Does anyone have Bison Decals set 35035? Specifically the Sherman Tank Dozer - Peleliu part. I'd be chuffed if someone was willing to part with it.

Cheers
David

Dave (D1) and myself talked about this GB yesterday I have a pearl harbor Zero on the way and a number of Rabaul and Solomon's Zeros as well that would make great kiwi adversaries

I have seen a base I like for the pearl zero just need to try to find it seeing as The Base Guy that made them no longer sells them to shops so will keep looking.

How big a base, what wood and how much are you looking to spend? I have a fully operational Death Star workshop with all the usual stuff like, table saw, bench planer, biscuit joiner etc. I'm just getting back in to making proper wood bases and I'm making one at the moment for an Operation Chastice Dio I'm building on the side. I only use standard pine and Douglas pine as that's all I can get hold of cheap enough but would be happy to use other woods if I can source them.

I am looking at an oval IJN carrier deck for my Zero just needing to work through what size I need to pull it off, but I am needing an octagonal base about 190mm to a side about 20mm thick with a bevel for my 1/48 Finemolds Tie fighter that I am building now. I am wanting to mount the Tie with perspex rod in the classic dive attack you see in the movies.

I voted for PTO based on US west coast inclusion, so I had something to readily play with. If you include Darwin, for the same reason would think you should include San Francisco/California. Not sure I have anything that fits into scope, so will sit this one out, unless I can find a Japan based US subject.

Leave as is. For what you are looking at for Armistice, anything I wanted to do would be outside scope. Will see if I can come up with something of interest to me from Atsugi or Iwakuni. My build schedule is also pretty tight with Nats stuff too.

Does that include a lathe? Been looking for a pair of simple matching figure plinths which seem to be as rare as hens teeth in this part of the globe (feel free to PM so as not to derail this thread)

Yes Glen it's a lot of Jungle but theres a MASSIVE scope across at least 3 wars (WWII, Korea & Vietnam) plus all the other conflicts like Malaya (big NZ involvement unless I'm mistaken) there's also India in there, the island hopping, plus all the modern stuff.
Sorry it's not Europe folks but it's not possible to please everyone, I originally wanted to make it just WWII but Craig was keen to use some modern stuff and so was Andrew, there's always next Group Build.

Glenn, look up the 8th(?) Brigade of NZ 3rd Division, their fighting on Vella Lavella, Mono & Green Islands in the Treasury Group (please forgive any incorrect details). I've seen some great images of unloading troop transports etc and Kiwi soldiers sitting around inspecting a captured Jap machine gun. You might find quite a lot to go on in our involvement on these islands. I believe they still commemorate their liberation by the Kiwis each year on Mono ...?
I have a feeling I've seen an image of a Kiwi Valentine tank in the jungle on Vella Lavella too. Haven't got e-copies or anything though.
I know in Air-to-Air there is a great story of downed Kiwi pilot F/O Luoni watching the dawn landings on (Mono?) from a cave on the point where he was sheltered by natives and Kiwi advanced scouts after spending 30 days in the jungle living off the land and avoiding Japanese patrols.
I hope your search is fruitful if you undertake it.
Wally.
