I just read about these Frangrost and the beams that lay across them. They were also called Frangrost bomb traps. The beams, as you showed in the previous drawing are upside down U-shaped to formed a wedge. Bombs would wedge in between them, though the bomb casings would crack their detonators were not be triggered.
I am enjoying learning from this project. I love submarines for some reason, so I have a particular interest in seeing this project unfold.
Side note: Maarten, I have seen all of the Hogan's Heroes series, but cannot figure out which scene Klink is in, in your avatar. Do you know?

Believe it or not it is to SMALL for a u boot, Scnhellboot would be nice but i never seen or read that a Scnhellboot visited the lorient base.
I am thinking about a partly sunken ship in front of the entrance.
It is the Keroman 1 slipway bunker in its final construction fase
