Sci-Fi & Fantasy Group Build
The main criteria for this build is to have fun!
(Build dates: Saturday 24 October 2015 - Saturday 15 October 2016)

Proudly brought to you by Kiwi Modeller in conjunction with Mighty Ape!

The Universe is vast beyond measure, and within it exists untold dimensions. Beyond these is “Te Kore” - The Nothingness. In between the reality of our existence and Te Kore “The Kiwi Modeller Sci-Fi and Fantasy Group Build”!
Parameters for this Group Build
Pretty much any subject is allowed, as long as it’s not real. Examples include Gunpla / Macross / Gundam, TV/movie models, Warhammer, Apocalypse, Steam Punk, Sci-Fi, Bio-Mechanical, Fantasy, Figurines (not based on real people). Out of box, aftermarket and scratch built all allowed. 3D printed items are also allowed but must be totally created by you, not edited from someone else’s work or had elements imported. No partially started kits or work allowed. Entrants must have been be KM members for at least 2 months. Normal vetting for any cynical entries as usual.

All entries must have a build log posted in the group build forum presenting regular progress. Judging will be by community vote and possibly guest judge (to be confirmed). Prize(s) are also to be confirmed. Entries are welcome from KM members outside of NZ and if you win a prize you just need to pay the international shipping. Voting will run for the week following the 15th October 2016, ending at midnight on the 22nd October. A deadlock will be decided by a separate run-off vote. An affordable donation to Kiwmodeller.com is always much appreciated from those participating.
Thanks, and Enjoy!

I said I would build something for this group build, and gosh darn it I will (even if it is not what I originally intended to build). This was on sale on Mighty ape and seemed to fit the bill. This will be OOB (no really!) though I might get funky with the paint job.

The box:

Blurry box contents:

Fancy full colour instruction sheet:

Dire warning of the dangers to come:

Hold on, this could be a mad scramble of a build.

Now, what to do about the WW1 build I also promised.

Ha, I'm watching TOS on Netflix at the moment. I also have an Enterprise in the stash that I was going to pull out for this. Maybe some other time.

Very cool Grant. Been thinking about getting one of these myself, but can't bring myself to buying any more kits since I build so slowly. Looking forward to seeing what you do with this and what you think about the kit

Judging from all the warnings it could be a tricky one - even the box says 'Ages 15 & Up' - I don't think I've ever noticed an age recommendation that high before - it would certainly scare me off.

Edit: I've just checked the Moebius 1/72 Colonial Viper kit that's in my stash - same warning - 15 & Up - Oh darn. :pinch:

I'll definitely keep an eye on this build. Good luck. :)

Given the time I have, I might end up building an teeny tiny 1/72 airplane for that.

After seeing Glenn's A7V dio I think the rest of us might be wasting our time - just wrap it up now and give Glenn the prize. :P

It's the participating that's important. Medals for participation used to be a thing here didn't they? :side:

Yeah, aint no way mine would be competitive lol... but it would be included in the final build... but also just realised how close the cut off is, and also that I didn't vote I would be in it... but will do my best. Gotta finish the Phantom and the Ferarri...

I think that is for the kids. It's not a difficult kit and I doubt you will have any problem with it. :)

This is a fun kit. It looks like it shouldn't have good fit, but it does. It took all of two hours to get it together ready for painting. Here it is with a base coat ready for some very minor filling.

That does look nice. Great base to throw some imaginative weathering at.

Looks good! I've got the sleeker looking Mk.VII kit in the stash to be built one day...

Base coat, preshade and gloss ready for the first detail colour. I'm going to paint the red stripes rather than mess around with decals.

Cheers! First batch of detail painting. I'm tempted to give the red decals a go, maybe starting with the difficult looking ones first.

Yeah I tried the one on the nose first and it was pretty clear it wouldn't conform cleanly. The kit also has insignia decals for if you decide to paint the stripes.
