2018 is the Centenary of the formation of the Royal Air Force on the 1st of April, 1918. The build will run until February 1st 2019 and is open to any scale and any subject that represented the RAF, including aircraft, ground vehicles and equipment, or RAF personnel.
Ideally the model must be built in its entirety within the specified build dates and the build, but kits that have been part started can be entered at the discretion of the group build leader.
The build should be accompanied by a thread in the group build forum documenting regular progress. Post shots of your sprues or the current state of the build at the beginning of your thread.
By the end of the GB (and no later than 24 hours after the completion date) participants should post five pictures of the completed build in the GB completed builds thread.
There is no entry fee for the GB, but a donation for the upkeep of Kiwimodeller is always welcome.
Entrants who complete a build, post their completed pictures and reside in New Zealand will enter a draw to win a prize (Prize to be advised; one draw entry per person; entrant must reside in New Zealand to qualify for entrance in to the prize draw).

Made a start on this. The detail in the cockpit is a bit soft but the fit isn't anything as bad as I saw in one build online. This will all more or less disappear behind the tiny cockpit windows.

That's good to hear. With the little I've put together (horizontal stabilizer, gear) I've already noticed the nice engineering in the kit. Nice work on that camo. Mine's going to be white. :)

Moving ahead with this pretty quickly. The kit is a pleasure to build so it hasn't taken long. The engineering is great but the detail is just a bit soft in some areas. There are some small gaps to fill but they are small and easily filled with Vellejo acrylic filler. Just a few more parts to go on, including the glass, and then its time for some paint.

Finally some progress with this. Construction is complete and the undercoat is on, but I think I will do a bit more surface prep before starting the painting. I have a gross head cold so this will probably be next week.

Fill fill fill, sand sand sand... There is a surprising number of fine gaps to fill on this kit. Maybe a couple more sessions and then I'll be ready for the proper paint job.

Yep it's tedious, but you know it's all going to be worth it at the end, Grant.

Looking good! I've just seen Drewe Manton finish one in the light brown scheme and it looks cracking. I might just have to buy my first newish airfix kit!

A truly British icon, I do like the 'V' Bombers.
The Victor probably has the most 'presence' of the three.

I can sympathise with the trepidation of a white scheme. PITA trying to remove seams that show the smallest defect under white.

Good luck!

Ross

Interesting footage, for your perusal.
It's almost as if she's saying, "I wanna be free!" one more time..

This would make your sphincter pucker, if you were less skilled.

Cheers. I sprayed the aluminium and then brushed the Tamiay rubber black. There is a small ridge at the rim so you can wick the paint up to this if you are careful and the paint is sufficiently thinned.

Hmmm, this is a bit of a challenging build. The white leaves very little room for error. I'm going to have to work on the edges on the glass, the decals, and a couple of gaps. This could take some time.

And finished. Not entirely satisfied, and I could easily have spent another couple of weeks on this kit. I think I will get the K2 version for the stash. Knowing the kit's idiosyncrasies I should be able to improve over this.

I think I was mostly just grumpy and didn't enjoy the build. But things I would change are some of the steps in assembly, getting a better gloss before the decals and spending a bit more time on the glass. In between the clear parts and the fuselage there is a bit of a gap that really shows up. Next time I would glue in the parts, fill the gap, sand back flush and the polish the clear part.
