After moving house and all that it entails, I'm really happy to get back to the bench once more. Hardest part of returning to the workbench was I never finished the main under carriage a month ago and picking it up again yesterday mean't having to reacquaint myself with the tangled madness of hydraulic and electrical lines. Got stuck in yesterday and I've finished most of the detailing on the main undercarriage legs. Just a few grease points and cable strap tension what-knots to add and I'm back to the airframe. :woohoo:

Nice work Terry!
You really get a sense of the tremendous strength needed in landing gear for fast-jet naval aviation, don't you with the figure alongside?

Hi peeps, I'm still chewing away at this elephant of a project. Crew now painted and office is complete (enough!) ready for canopy to be glued down. Only point I'd like to make is the Aires aftermarket pit is really designed to be left with lid up. Numerous areas and parts foul with plastic kit parts preventing the canopy from closing properly and much resin paid for was either thrown away or drilled away. I still like the end result, just smarting from the punishment to get to this point.

So an interim update: Kit is now in the paint shop.... it's so big, it's more like painting a house! That is an A2 cutting mat underneath my model btw  .

I've not worked out whether to decal straight onto semigloss Mr Color that it's currently being painted with or X-22 gloss coat this sucker and then decal it. Gloss coat will no doubt demolish at least one jar of clear! Any opinions about decalling directly onto semi-gloss Mr Color warmly welcomed and appreciated.

Cheers,
t.

Still got to glue front wheels in place, detail paint and mess up the ordinance from grubby hands of cracker stackers, but nearly ready for takeoff... B)

I'm calling my group build project finished. Ok I failed to finish on time, but other than that small “technicality” finished is good right? Technically I'm still waiting for some Trumpeter spare sprue to arrive from China (picked up through Aliexpress page last week), with ejector racks and I'll fit the second GBU-24 staggered to the rear pallet.

A few shots I managed to squeeze in at the end of play today below with our poxy compact camera. More shots to follow, when the sun is out, and our curious cat has made himself scarce.

The base really does give it some context. The base btw is a 1/32 Phoenix models vacform carrier deck that I inserted a scratchbuilt catapult into all mounted onto a ply painting frame.

As for what's next I'm not really sure? I've not allowed myself to be distracted by a fresh project for fear it would interupt my flow or progress on the F-14D. I've loosely discussed with Tania that I might make a small project like a 1/72 Spitfire or similar, but I've also got an unfinished kit or two that could be resurrected, or all of the above.

FANTASTIC!
I have always wanted to do a F-14 in 1/32 but have been put off the Tamiya one because of the rescribing required. Looking at your Trumpeter one maybe I should consider that.
Anyway, great build, I love the base it really sets it off!
Looking forward to your next build, it's bound to be epic!
Chris
