Neat idea. Some of those NASCAR workshops are pretty impressive - huge hanger sized buildings with polished floors and dozens of cars being prepared.
I'm guessing your not planning something on that scale. :)

Perhaps at the racetracks they'd have garages that are a bit more 'intimate' with just a few cars and mobile tool chests etc.

Looking good.
I think a new chassis would be light-silvery-grey with dark areas at the welds but a chassis under repair would be painted, apart from the area being repaired.

I use hair spray for the chipping
1 spray metal colour(silver-gun metal) enamel.
2 wait for paint to dry
3 spray with hair spray where you want the paint to come off,let it dry.
4 spray with top colour, acrylic, let dry
5 wet area of model with water and scrub paint off with a tooth brush, chip away with a tooth pick etc.

Welds
1 stretched spruce
2 glue in place
3 soften with thin cement
4 go to town with knife, making lines,

Welds look like low hydrogen stick welds, pretty heavy and course,

Nice work there Glenn, is that paint or have you actually put a blue LED/fibre optic in there?
