diorama NOUN 1. A model representing a scene with three-dimensional figures, either in miniature or as a large-scale museum exhibit.

The subject of this group build is the diorama, broadly defined. It is open to any scale, genre, medium, or subject matter: sci-fi, military, non-military, aircraft, ships, tanks, animals, historic scenes... whatever takes your fancy!

The GB will be launched on 14th of November 2016, and run until the start of the 2017 Armistice in Cambridge. This is an ideal opportunity to present your diorama at the meeting.

The model must be completed within the specified build dates and but completed parts of the diorama (e.g. vehicles) may be included if the clear majority of the diorama is built within the period. The build should be accompanied by a thread in the group build forum documenting regular progress. Post your materials/sprues/concept sketches/vague, unrealistic and overly ambitious intentions at the beginning of your thread.

By the end of the GB (and no later than 24 hours after the completion date) participants should post five pictures of the completed build in the GB completed builds thread. There is no entry fee for the GB, but a donation for the upkeep of Kiwimodeller is welcome. The winner of the group build will be decided by popular vote and will win a prize (to be announced)!

Online voting will run for the week following AIC 2017. A deadlock will be decided by a separate run-off vote.

Your hosts for the build will be Grant and Hadley. Enjoy!

I've got my idea for this now... Probably going to go with my black and white theme that I was talking about with my Corsairs, but make a whole Dio on it... instead of a 50/50... so watch this space.

For some inspiration in this genre, here is the images page from a "Diorama" google search. www.google.co.nz/search?q=Diorama&biw=13...sAQINQ&dpr=1#imgrc=_

That would be cool if Glenn would allow us. I'd rather do that than take someone's picture from the net.

Grant; You are also welcome to use one of my images of either the Pacific Sherman dio or the Desert Jeeps dio but I would say that one of Glenns would better suit.

Yup, all good to go. It doesn't have its own space in the group build forum, but I'm sure Gary will remember when he gets time.

Hi everyone, we're underway and have a forum section for the build (thanks Gary). So who's first in announcing their idea? :)

Question for those in the know...

I am planning on a winter set T34 and Panzer IV in dio... but I was thinking of almost having like a mini dio for each, and then on seperate bases... but are set up for each other... It's hard to explain, so I have included an awesome drawing to explain the vision I have lol.

Please if someone could let me know if this would work? Both would have trees/shrubbery, mud, snow etc... just on different bases. Thinking like this, as tank battles were often over a bit of distance, and I don't have a big enough room for that lol.

Sounds like a pretty cool idea to me. You could have the entire thing set up on a map of the area of the battle. :)

Sounds really interesting K2.
Perhaps you could have a road sign on each - the T-34 heading to Berlin and the PzIV off to Moscow - or both heading for some town in between.
I'm just thinking of some way to tie the two together.
I like Grants idea too. Two scenic dioramas on a larger base with a map or an old photo etc.

What scale are you thinking? - the 1/76 Revell/Matchbox T-34 set would have you half way there. :)

Both are going to be in 1/35 - As I already have the Academy Panzer IV, and also I have a 1/35 Tamiya T-34/76 coming thanks to our fearless leader :)

Maybe signs etc would be good... I will have to look into that, as it sounds like a great idea. Was just thinking of having them in 'battle', or have one crew sitting next to a lit fire, while the other tank has spotted them and is approaching for the kill - making both a seperate dio, but work well together. Having them on one frame together wouldn't work very well... Not the way tank battles happened over a fair bit of distance, and not very often side by side...

Will also potentially look into some figures... Will see what comes with the kits.

I've acquired a rather nice glass display case, it's 400 x 400 x 600 high, it has a base. I'm just trying to decide what I can build to put inside it.
So far the Flak Tower with the Twin Zwilling 128mm AA gun is the favourite. I'm thinking of making a section of it and having the gun as the center piece with maybe some flak 40s around it if there's room. I've seen photos of the towers with the patients from the hospitals located inside the towers taking time out on the roof on beds.
Other scenes I've thought of are Star Wars scenes with the Bandai figures, a VC underground tunnel complex, a WWI Trench with tunnels underneath and trenches and tank(s) on top. It's not easy because of the shape/height of the case but I'll think of something, open to suggestions.
