Built to Race
Start Date 30/11/2015
End Date 28/04/2017

The Build is open to all current members of KiwiModeller.
Open to ANY Scale of Model using any medium and any method of construction from OOB to complete Scratchbuilt.
ONLY Vehicles of four or more wheels, (excluding motorcycles and motorcycle-like vehicles (i.e. Quads and trike types)).
Depict ONLY motorised vehicles specifically designed and/or built to compete in any class of sanctioned motor racing events from any era, including Land Speed Record attempts. This may include Post Showroom modifications.
If possible, include written and/or photographic documentation of the vehicle/s you are depicting. Yes, we are looking to depict ACTUAL vehicles that have or do exist.
Artistic Bases/Dioramas are acceptable.
The model/s must be built in entirety within the specified build dates and the build should be accompanied by a thread in the specific “Built to Race” group build forum documenting regular progress. Post shots of your sprues, and documentation if you have any, at the beginning of your thread. By the end of the GB (and no later than 24 hours after the completion date) participants should post a minimum of five pictures of the completed build in the GB’s completed builds thread.
There is no entry fee for the GB, but a donation for the upkeep of Kiwimodeller is always welcome.

The winner of the group build will be decided by popular vote. Voting will run for seven days from the 28th of April 2017, ending Midday on the 5th of May 2017. A deadlock will be decided by a separate run-off vote.

Moderators for this GB are 1/35th Battalion (D1 – David) and one other person yet to offer their services.

This is going to be my entry for this GB

Have just ordered the kit and wing. Will take a couple of weeks to arrive.

Looking at finishing something like this

Might change the wheels, but will be getting front canards and some carbon fibre decal

Looking forward to building something with less wheels

It's a wasted trip baby. Nobody said nothing about locking horns with no Tigers.

Nice, not the biggest EVO fan (well, until the 10) but those extras and that pic might have me on the way to converted :-)

I'm the opposite - I liked them when Makinen ruled the rally scene (as per the Tamiya kit) - but now days, ho-hum :P

Cool choice Andrew.

Thanks guys B)

I can't stand the Evo X, I think they lost it, especially when they did away with the 4G63  I like the 3, 5, 6.5 and the 9

I'll be raiding a Tamiya Evo 6 road car kit to provide the right hand drive dash.

Have found a sheet of carbon fibre decal online. Just need to settle on which wheel set to get. A few companies make AM decal sets with various Japanese tuner logos. Will get a few of those to add as well

I have BNA on the radar as a possible source, but every time I find a wheel shape I like, they seem to be out of stock :pinch:

Nice. Always a joy opening a new kit, smelling that new plastic hahaha. I actually had the joy of that with my longbow - I brought it ages ago, and when I got it I didn't even go through the sprues or anything! Was a nice surprise when I finally opened it hahahaha.

Looking forward to seeing this one come together

I've been spending the last day and a bit sorting out some Lego to sell to fundraise for modelling stuff. The old adage goes "You always find something when you're not looking for it" Along with a couple of sets of missing DML Winterketten Magic Tracks, I found these :woohoo:

Will fit them (or at least try  ) Beats buying a set B)

Also found a RHD dash from a Tamiya Evo 6 road car

Might prep the body over the weekend and get it ready for a spray next week, while there is fine weather forecasted

Made a start on the body on this one. Fitted the bumpers, sideskirts and wing mirrors ready for a coat of primer. I also filled in the kit holes on the bootlid

Update time.

Some bits from BNA arrived.

Changed my mind about using the Aoshima wheels and brought some Hobby Design 18" Enkei GTC-01 wheels. Luckily the Evo tyres slip on, otherwise it is another $20 for tyres  Also got some etched mesh, carbon decal, canard set and a set of logo details

Here is how the Evo looks on the rims :woohoo:

Need to finish the M1025 build before making some headway on this.

Those rims look pretty good man.

Aren't you finishing off some tanks, halftracks? wouldn't you want to get them out of the way first being so close to the finish line :P

Yeah, stoked with how the rims look. Happy that Hobby Design give you pins for direct fit to the Tamiya hubs

Ha, will join the rotating circus production line I have going on

Update time :woohoo:

Now the weather is getting warmer, I've moved this to the bench. I'm planning on spraying this with Tamiya rattle lacquers so prefer the temp as close to 20°C or above

Been cleaning up parts ready to paint. Working out what parts will be painted what colour. Will be using rattle cans as much as possible to speed up production.

One of the biggest issues so far has been the dash. The Evo base kit has a left hand drive dash, and I want mine to be RHD  I took the RHD dash from a Tamiya Evo 6 road car, and have chopped it to fit the roll cage. I'm pretty happy with how it sits. I still need to sort the shifter and handbrake, as these are both set for left hand drive too. Will make a plate and simulate some welds and move them closer to the right.

I need to order a roll of 40 or 50mm masking tape to make templates for the carbon fibre bonnet decal, will be doing the bonnet, roof and boot
