This is a Group build to remember the sacrifices of Bomber Command and other air forces of the world during WWII
Bomber Command was founded in 1936, 4 years later on the night of May 11/12 1940, Bomber Command made it's first night time Raid. The build will run from 11th May 2016 until April 21st 2017 which date coincides with the last raid on Berlin.
See the "Rules" topic for more details.
Here's my entry for the bomber command group build. A classic three colour Matchbox kit. This will be out of the box. The decals are toast after being in the box for 40 years but I have some replacements (which are for the wrong Mk, but I'll make do). I suspect this is going to be slap dash, even by my standards.
A small start. The plastic is pretty hard. Sprue gates are very fine (probably better than a lot of recent kits). The glass is amazingly clear for sitting in the box that long. I sat there for about ten minutes pondering how to build and paint the turrets without messing them up and then making the obvious choice of completing them as painted sub-assemblies before gluing the fuselage halves together around them.
Look at that marvelous 1970s detail in the cockpit!
I was briefly tempted to go the whole hog and brush paint this but then sanity prevailed. Still, I'm not putting a jot of research into the build.

Yeah, Matchbox and Hasegawa were the kits of my youth. I haven't made any progress on this. I've had a head cold for going on two weeks. I'm taking three different immune suppressants, so these normally minor things hit hard.
