Welcome, Guest

This group build is to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain. It will run from 10th of July to 31st of October, 2015, following the dates of the battle.

The build is open to any scale and any subject that played a role in the Battle of Britain. While the Battle of Britain is foremost remembered as an air battle, builds including figures (e.g. famous historical figures from the battle), vehicles and armour (e.g. AA guns) and dioramas (e.g. airfield dioramas) are eligible provided a documented link can be established.

The model must be built entirely within the build dates to qualify, and the build should be accompanied by a thread in the group build forum documenting regular progress. Post your sprues at the beginning of the thread! By the end of the group build (and no later than 24 hours after the completion date) participants should post five pictures of the completed build in the group build forum which will be organised shortly.

To discourage cynical entries the build is open only to those who have been members of KiwiModeller for two months at the start of the group build and with at least thirty posts in the forums. So lurkers, get posting now if you want to enter! I will also vet for cynical or “gaming” entries and vote rigging.

No entry fee will be charged, but this is a good opportunity to make a donation to the upkeep of KiwiModeller.

The winner of the group build will be decided by popular vote. Voting will run for the week following the 1st of November, ending Midday the 8th of November. A deadlock will be decided by a separate run-off vote.

Eduard 1/32 BF109-E3 WEEKEND EDITION with RB seat-belts (and possibly other bits). Not sure of exact subject yet. Steve (Viperbuilder) kindly sent me some old Microscale decals but we are unsure if they will still be serviceable. Looking forward to having a go at this big kit especially airbrushing the body.
Have made $20 donation to the site. And thanks to Grant for managing this build and supplying the prize :)

Yes I found high recommendation reviews for these RB seatbelts. I was going to get them from the shop here but it has disappeared
Yak, the WEEKEND EDITION is a simpler and quite a bit cheaper version of the Eduard ProfiPack kits. Basically Weekend Edition has exactly same molded parts but no photo etch parts and only 1 decal option. There are PE parts and 4 decal options in the ProfiPack.
Mr. Eduard says "The Weekend Edition offers a simpler and less expensive alternative to the standard ProfiPACK kits. They provide a top quality injection molded kit at an incredibly competitive price. The Weekend edition kits contain all parts in injection molded plastic, and build one specific variant. They contain no additional accessories, and have a single marking option for which the boxtop serves as a guide. These kits are designed for those modelers that don’t require or want all of the ‘bells and whistles’ of the ProfiPACK kits, and are ideal for beginners and quick turnaround modelers. These kits still can be upgraded with separately available accessory sets as, and if, desired" ( www.eduard.com/company/ ).

Yeah shop is broken for now, needs the software upgrading which is more than I got left in the kitty to fix this week.
I do have a few sets of the green luftwaffe belts and 1 or 2 of the beige sets, PM me if you're up for a set.

Yeah Dave great to see the big planes coming out. This will be my first go at this scale. Are you going to have a go at your 1/48 109 for the BoB build?

Here's the last 109 I built, it it helps any. www.kiwimodeller.com/index.php/forum/38-...109-f-4?limitstart=0 The cockpit will be RLM 02 on yours I guess?

Thanks Kane, And Grant I like the PE on your cockpit there. The weekend kit doesn't have any but I might try and make up some piping etc - we'll see... :)
Yes RLM02 is prescribed but I don't want it to look too grey - I quite like the greenish cockpit look. Which raises an interesting point - is the judging based on absolute historic accuracy of colour, parts etc or is there some artistic license allowed? :)

Probably depends on the individuals voting I guess. Aesthetics and technique often trump accuracy for me.

Voting here is about what people like, the effort they've put in and the overall look. Enjoy the build and just enjoy the build, don't worry about the rest.

If you look at my latest build, the BF110C - That is RLM02 according to Vallejo Model Air... and it's quite green rather than grey... so guess it depends? lol

Nice big cockpit there though, I wouldn't have any suggestions other than make it a little dirty and worn, but no too much. mainly have fun.

RLM02 is pretty green, for a grey.

I used Gunze Mr Hobby aqueous RLM02 on a Tamiya 1/48 109 and it has a greenish colour to it.

What would normally be the colour underneath for chipping, while we're talking about colours? Would these planes be primed in grey?

I don't know if it's accurate, but I have used silver, or ali colour just to really make it stand out. I would assume though it would be a darker colour for the cockpit, but body would be the silverish colour... but, I am no expert haha

The 3 downward cables(?) are looking pretty ugly so might have to redo them more tidy with thinner wire. Although I wonder if that will matter much once grungy paint applied. Any thoughts?
