Here's what I'm working with. Kit looks okay, but it's hardly state of the art. Surgery will be required to remove the avionics hump, modify the tail, remove various bumps and appendages, and replace them with others. (Obiviously I have somehow decided to build this one before the Harrier Gr.3. )

Go Grant!
Wow, I must get me one of these kidney transplants if it results in such modelling output.
Looking forward to the progress of your Scooter mate.
Remember the other R component of your recovery ... Rest ....?
Cheers
Wally.

I should be starting mine tomorrow, and I am leaning towards the RNZAF version - so some surgery will need to be done with mine as well lol.

Will be interesting to kind of build a long side you Grant :)

Cheers Wally, I'm taking it pretty easy. Modelling is pretty relaxing most of the time.

Looking forward to see how yours goes too. :cheer:

I've already started the surgery. Cut off the hump, made a plug and filled the gaps with putty. I'll post pics later. :)

Cheer, will be interested to see how you managed that. I have yet to look at mine properly, trying to get the Tirpitz done (should be tonight)

Sounds fun, I'm getting into double figures now with G/K builds, but have never been game for that particular exercise.

I built this kit way back when it was released in the original flying Kiwi's A-4K erm, bagging (because it wasn't in a box) with appropriate decals for a pre-Kahu K.

Cut out the hump with a knife:

Cut and shape a plug from styrene:

Paint and insert minimally detailed cockpit:

Putty!

File, sand, fill repeat:

I'll shoot some paint over this then work on it a bit more tomorrow to refine the shape.

I don't know why I said styrene, it's actually the spare door from the Revell Space Shuttle kit I'm also building.

LOL, well still should get some styrene. Will see if I can plug it... I still might just go for the US version for mine, and build a 1/48 for the show as well... hmm...

Anyways, nice work though mate... not going to steal your thread lol

More progress. Mostly more filling and sanding and making various modifications specfic to the A-4K. Still some seams to fill and shaping to be done. I'll tone down the raised panel lines a bit before painting. They are about the size of he raised detail on the 1/32 Skyhawk I just finished.

Awesome progress Grant. Shows how much of a slow-poke I am though when it took me maybe 2 months or more to build mine

This kit is probably a bit simpler than the one you built though.

Here' the progress. More filling and sanding and adding bits and bobs. I'll give this another going over tomorrow, refining some of the new details, and then it is ready for the paint job. B)

There is a light coat of sky grey on there to help me see the surface properly.

Some more progress. Painted and glossed. I bought some Vallejo liquid mask to try for the canopy. I tried another brand of liquid mask that dried too quickly, and that put me off. But this is more promising. I wicks up against the canopy framing quite nicely. Application was super easy, we'll see how it works out when it's time to come off.

Want to see how that goes...havn't tried Vallejo mask yet..have had mixed results with the others...
