Cool, will be following this closely mate. Didnt even know Hase made a Kiwi Skwark kit. You're not losing much using the kit Tub though. I think its a good decision. I like the choice of scheme too. You usually see the more iconic schemes built so I think its a cool choice.

Lots of 1/35 Armor mainly WWII German and a few Modern British/American pieces, 1/32 Aircraft and 1/48 Aircraft. Aircraft chosen to replicate RNZAF and RAAF types through the years. Some RAF & USAF types exist also.
Thanks all, hopefully it doesn't disappoint. A start has been made, but I'm concentrating on getting some of the less fun bits (undercarriage, canopy masking etc) out of the way before getting the quick progress stuff happening.
First off another decision made, to use the kit canopy over the vac-form alternative provided by KRM. It just looks to have better detail and more guaranteed fit.
I've made a start on painting the cockpit. The one-piece mould incorporating the tub and nose gear bay is one of the best I've seen. That's the 72'nd Fujimi cockpit alongside.
KRM instrument panel. Not 100% accurate, but still more representative than the stock E/F panel provided in the kit. It'll do. I actually scratchbuilt one of these in 1/72 once. Nobody can see it but I know it's there
The KRM Escapac. Again nicer than the kit seat, but a few bubbles and imperfections to address:
Well I found out where the KRM Hud base was (or wasn't). Part 3 on this pic is the frame for the HUD glass, but part 2 is the base. And as can be seen it's MIA.
This is the panel after painting and ready for a wash and maybe a bit of drybrushing. Deciding between what looks cool and what looks scale The switches I painted just by overcoating the base in black then very lightly sanding it back. Works I think.
A little bit of detail painting (a bit blown out by the flash) in the nose gear bay to break up the white. It's effectively already shaded in real life so won't put too much if any washes through it:

Still at the stage of doing lots of little fiddly but not very photogenic things with this one. The fuselage I expect to go together soon, then I can get to work cutting up the wings
Progressing forward with the other A-4 on the bench at the same time, not helped by having a cold keeping me away from the bench fo rmost of the last week!
Various interior bits for the fuselage. The fan and CFG are painted aluminium, just the flash has washed it out.
I was seeing fit issues for the KRM sidewalls (possibly because they were designed to go with the KRM tub and nit the Hasegawa one), and rather than faff about I just decided to cut out the bits I wanted most instead which was much faster and less painful. There's no rule that says I have to use the whole thing is there?
I gave the instrument panel a few dabs of gloss to make the instrument and MFD faces a bit more distinctive, and added some plastic strip for the pads at the bottom of the panel. I've also started scratchbuilding a HUD base since it's missing from my KRM set. Most of the HUD building will take place later on so it doesn't get damaged during other parts of the build. Same goes for the seat which will only go in as late as possible.
KRM's T-handles (the cream bit on the panel and cutting mat) are nicely shaped but a tad oversize:
It also occurs to me that the coaming on the Kahu (bottom left) was a bit reduced in size compared to the standard, so some cutting will be in order for that piece too.
Taken that deep breath and started cutting up the wings to correct the slat recesses. Knocked off one of the slat rails to my disgust, but I've got it to reattach later. Besides if you aren't knocking slat rails off every now and then you're not building A-4's

Since I was an expert by then the second recess came off cleaner, so it was the first to go back on:
One thing Hasegawa doesn't tell you with this kit by the way is to open up the holes for the Kahu wingtip sensors, even though they are moulded in there. Lucky I saw them and figured out what they were for before putting the wings together.
Both recesses back in and puttied up using Grant's "why didn't that occur to me earlier?" tape technique as seen on his Harrier. From experience a few layers of putty (tamiya white) and proper drying time will be needed to account for shrinkage. 1/72 wing in the background getting it's recess seams attended to.

Fuselage ready to go together. Finally, it seems like it has taken an age although I got to this point and only then realised I had forgotten to add the throttle to the cockpit. Short pause to paint and add it and the fuse was ready to go. 7g lead sinker as ballast - Hasegawa recommends 8, but 7 seems enough.
I took care of the warping tendencies of the fuselage halves by using gel superglue for the nose, then gluing the rest after a bit of curing time
The fuselage is mostly cleaned up, and I've added a scratchbuilt cooling inlet to the fuselage side. I've noticed it's an easily missed detail on Kahu builds. This one is a bit overscale but will look better once painted.
I've also removed the strengthening plate (?) from the intakes to match our A-4's
