Made a start yesterday...not too much to this kit .. cockpit detail is decals only but not gonna see it anyway and did just receive this from Hobbyeasy

so that should help a little.

Nice, I'll be keeping an eye on this as I'll be starting the same kit in a couple of weeks (or less hopefully)

Will be interesting to see what you think Webby...My subject knowledge on this is not great..the kit detail looks ok from what I can tell...there just doesn't seem to be many parts! More time for painting I spose!

You're right about the low part count, that took me by surprise too !!

A trick in the build-up you may want to consider: attach the halves of the hump to the fuselage sides BEEFORE you bring the fuselage halves together. The fit at the front ofthe hump and upper fuselage isn't great and doing it this way does mitigate it a wee bit. I did the filling/bending at this point aswell. Just a thought.

Ian.

Looking good. Nice to see one in flight.

Do you plan to modify the fin tip or just build as is?

If you want to modify the fin tip I have the square one from my hase kit that I ain't using. If you felt up to cutting the other one off in the right spots it should fit right in place.
If you want it I can post it down to you.
Let me know.

Ahh I see now! As I said earlier my knowledge is limited! But I see what your saying ...it looks as if they have just squared the fin off? Can I do that ? or will it then be too short? I don't know if I'm confident enough to replace it...but I'll try anything once! Or I may just leave it as it is....Advice?

It's not a case of cutting off - the squared fin tip is actually taller than the rounded one.

Thought that may not have noted it, and is why I only noted the most obvious distinction to the A-4K. If you get the Hasegawa tip from Gaz, then it is pretty easy. You Would need to measure down the leading edge of the rudder the height of the Hasegawa tip and the draw a line parallel to one of the other panel lines on the tail. Cut the tail just above it and cut down just in front of the rudder hinge line. Clean up with files/sandpaper and then glue the Hasegawa fin tip in place. Good way to try a very simple modification to a kit.

The fin's are the same height, but rather than having the gradual curve at the top ours kept going straight until it got to the height of the fin and then straight across. It would be relatively easy to do I think, there are natural panel lines where the parts change anyway so you could do it with just 3 cuts, one at the front towards the back, 1 higher up from the back to the front and then one more down from the top following the line of the rudder to connect the two previous cuts. As far as surgery goes it would be a pretty easy one but it's entirely up to you. I have added red lines to your image below to show where the cuts would need to be made. The yellow lines are roughly the shape of the A-4K fin top.

Let me know what you think, if you have a razor saw it would be a piece of cake, otherwise a scriber would also make short work of it I think.
The parts yours if you want it, let me know and I can post it down.

Actually I just noted that the Hasegawa squared fin tip has part of the rudder moulded with it. You would need to remove that section of rudder from the Hasegawa part too (not sure how easily it would fair in to the Italeri rudder, as the rudder is slightly taller as well).

Here is the page from the instructions of the Hasegawa 1/48 A-4K showing how part A14 fits in step 5

Nice Nos. Did you freehand the camo or use a template / tack?

Thanks Grover....tried tack for the tan colour but thought it was too sharp so had a crack at freehand for the rest...Actually I tried Silly Putty for the first time..Didnt like it at all..found it difficult to use,,,will go back to tack if I need to do sharper camo next time...

I used the call out FS numbers I had on the Old models decal instruction sheet then found the closest colours I had on the shelf. So the tan colour was a Vallejo( Can get the Number when I get home)But it was too dark so it ended up being a homemade mixture. The lighter green was a 50/50 mix of Tamiya Nato Green and Yellow. The Darker green was a 70/30 mix of Tamiya Olive Green and Yellow. Then went around and lightened center of panels a little.
Coat of future went on this morning..will then paint the gun surrounds and nose black..another coat of future and on to decals.
