With the Group Build coming up, I decided to get prepared.

Item 1.
All the other kits in various stages get packed away, none of my classic stalling / kit-hopping in a GB!

Item 2.
The kit itself:

Item 3.
I MAY give this decal and scheme from an older boxing a go, the US one with the band of blue. I tried out one of the blue-on-white stars from the bottom RH corner (for the other scheme) on the underside of an old model, and it seemed to work OK so they're old but not completely busted.

- or -

I may use the Lady Jessie markings the kit came with.

- or -

I MIGHT manage to finish off my decal sheet design, and make the modifications necessary to do a Kiwi bird after all, but I'm sceptical of managing this within the time constraints. As mentioned previously somewhere I think, I'll be happy to give out the digital file (put together in Illustrator) when I'm done and a review of the decal printing service.

Item 4.
The cockpit will be a frankenstein of parts from this kit and the Trumpeter kit (which I have a resin after-market set replacement for).

Now I just have to practice a little deep breathing and be patient. Looking forward to following the other entries!

Look forward to seeing another 1/32 A-4 down the assembly line, and no disrespect to any builders, but given the amount of A-4Ks lined up, the VC-1 markings will make a colourful alternative.

In fact, if you wanted even MORE colour, you could add the blue nose

I'm certainly planning on the blue nose, hopefully I'm not treading on too many accuracy-toes in doing so...?

The pictures I've found of Skyhawks in this garb, they all seem to be no guns or armament, just 3 fuel tanks. One model didn't even have the outer pylons. Thoughts?

VC-1 (from what I could find) was a fleet replenishment sqn who provided adversary training in Hawaii. The reason for 3 tanks would be because of the long distances over water they tend to carry as many tanks as they can, same as the F-22's now in Hawaii and any aircraft flying from Elmendorf or anywhere else in Alaska. The adversary training will be why they don't appear to have guns fitted. I did also come across quite a few pics of the VC-1 A-4's buddy tanking other aircraft, although I'm pretty sure it's hard to acquire or scratchbuild a buddy tank (Craig or Phil, feel free to jump in here and correct me, just trying to remember info from an old thread I read somewhere).

I keep looking at the X-wing on your desk. Is it Lego? Looks pretty awesome. And yes can't wait to see more. Will be good to see a 32nd kit being made.

Sure is - the big one is this: shop.lego.com/en-NZ/Red-Five-X-wing-Starfighter-10240 - and I tried to make a bit of a time-lapse video of putting it together too:

The small one is a custom build I found the instructions to out on the internet somewhere, parts bought off bricklink.com

Question time; the intakes on the Hasegawa kit I'm building end where they attach to the capped off fuselage. The intakes are big enough that this is quite visible. The Trumpeter kit (which is waiting in the stash) has a very nice internal piece - is there any way to create something similar if I were to cut the intake hole in the fuselage? Maybe there's a soft-drink or hand-soap bottle of about the right dimensions that could be wrangled into shape?

Their 1/32 OA-4M is based on the same Molds and I have the same issue. Was going to scratch build some intake blanks to add some colour to the grey and black scheme, but may think also about scratch building the intake instead.

Blanks is a pretty great idea, and I'm fairly certain I read somewhere that if a jet was on the ground for any length of time, blanks were going to be fitted, but I'm a pretty big fan of the effect the 3D depth of the intakes gives a model.

I have seen before on an F-4 kit (I think) that the guy building it had painted the end of the intake white but then feather a black circle from the middle almost all the way out which gave the illusion of the intakes tapering off into darkness, once the intakes were fitted it looked very convincing. I'll have to see if I can find the build again.

So I've done a little bit more, trying to mate up the parts from the different kits - some photos to follow once I get around to clearing the camera - but I'm on indefinite hold and might not / probably won't see this GB through. All my kits and gear are packed away along with the rest of our possessions as we get our place ready for sale, then it's all likely to go into storage while we rent a shoe-box and go house hunting.

Slack eh!

No problem mate, you've still got 5 months of the GB left so if you are quick enough to sort out a new house you should be able to get'er done.
