I haven't got it yet but I am eyeing up the 1/48 Hase A-4E/F Topgun kit, the one that comes with the acmi pod sprue from the hasegawa weapons sets. Have always liked the aggressor squawks and the only thing I would need extra for this kit will be a better seat, probably a pavla one from BNA since they are cheap and better than the kit ones (not that much will be seen in a scooter cockpit anyway!).

I'll confirm once I get my hands on one.

CyNaKyl if you consider doing a 1:32 you can have my ACMI pod, its even white metal.

I have the Hase 1:32 Top Gun kit and wasn't going to use it (the plane yes, the pod no).

The best thing you can do with the Hasegawa white metal ACMI pod and launch rail from that kit is to chop them up and use them for nose weight. :side: :pinch:

They are, at best, vague representations of the real thing.

Thanks for the offer FK, but if I was to get a 1/32 Skyhawk, it would most likely be the trumpy one, if I could get it at a decent price. But for this build, I will stick with 1/48. I have the hase weapons set with the acmi pod but since the one I'm thinking of getting comes with it anyway, as a bonus I get some gbu's and a couple of other weapons for free. And I don't need to get decals for it...

I have 2 that I am going to do. 1 will be the Hasegawa TA-4J as an Aggressor, the other, another Hasegawa TA-4J but will be a trainer. Both 1/48 scale

Hamish Woodman (Woadism)
1/32 Hasegawa A-4E/F Skyhawk (but I'll be attempting to use the Trumpeter cockpit parts), and my intent is to make an RNZAF bird, pre-Kahu.

EDIT - I'm also going to be having a crack at getting some custom decals printed - got a few projects I want to fit on the sheet! :) If they turn out OK I'll give the digital file to anyone that wants it.

You're not wrong had a squiz last night and Google'd the real thing,...you'd do better off with a piece of sprue and wire.

I'm in with the Hasegawa 1/48 K I've had sitting in the stash since 2002, with the Kiwiresin cockpit and Gekko decals, at the moment planning the 1997 Trial Green scheme with the pale green markings.

I've also got a Fujimi 1/72 E/F that might make it in depending how the big one goes. That one will be a pre-Kahu K c.1985 when the euro-1 scheme was fresh, and is the only major scheme variation I haven't done yet in 1/72.

Added my Fujimi 1/72 TA-4 to the mix. Was thinking of doing one of the YKW replacements I saw in a photo, which was still wearing US Navy white and orange training colours but with IDF/AF roundels and markings. Decided instead to build a TA-4 carrying a pair of Walleye missiles. A Hornet pilot once described a Walleye as similar to dropping a Skyhawk from the wing of his jet. Wonder what it would have been like releasing two Walleyes from a Skyhawk?

I'm hoping to be able to complete this, but I am going to have limited modelling time soon, as a new addition to the family is on it's way :woohoo: and I also have to move house :(

Any way, my topic is:

Hasegawa 1/48 TA-4F made into a TA-4K. Colour scheme undecided but it will be pre Kahu.

Another kiwi bird, but I really want one in my cabinet. So it's a good excuse to get one done.

Congrats on the forthcoming new addition Fritz! It will seem like it's impossible to deal with when the little bundle of joy first comes and everything you thought you knew about being tired and exhausted will go out the window but it does get easier... eventually!

Got this sorted now from Hobby Stop (keeping it local, well NZ local). It ended up being the same price as it would be for me to get it off eBay so decided to help out Moeggo's LHS.

Will be done as the box artwork, plus it comes with the acmi pod sprue from the hasegawa weapons set so I'll have some more spare weapons...

Also have the pavla escapac 1a-1 ejection seat coming from BNA, not much will be seen of the seat on the squawk cockpit anyway but i figure what can be seen should be as nice as possible.

Have that one myself and started on it OOB. Got as far as main assembly and got paint on the intake, cockpit, centreline pylon, LAU and ACMI before it ended up back in the box for a later date.

Rick has another boxing of the A-4 that will be available within the next two weeks;

I will have a chat to him and maybe I can bring a few examples of the A-4 kits up to Cambridge for anyone wanting to purchase them?

Just hope you are lucky like me and get a baby that decides to sleep 12-13 hours every night from 9 weeks... It has made things so much easier for us being able to get a full nights sleep too. We didn't even do anything, she just weened herself of the night feed and that was that, ever since it's always a full nights sleep, even if she is sick or teething or whatever. I feel very lucky :P

While the Escapac was used throughout their life, the model changed.

Originally the aircraft were delivered with the IC3, which used a bladder in the seat back to achieve man/seat separation. This was changed in 1974 to the IG3 which used the Mk82 man/seat separator rocket. which is the grey tube visible on the left hand shoulder of the seat structure.

True Phil, but for modelling purposes, most people will be happy with the kit seat, and not worrying about adding the separator rocket/opening. Even resin aftermarket manufacturers don't seem to distinguish differences between the IC3 and IG3 (or any of the other sub-variants for that matter)

Well you know from the previous thread I've already bought my kit, so, Craig, here we go:

Italeri 1:48 A-4E/F

Squadron undecided, but will be finished as a Vietnam era USN 'Iron Hand' late 'E' or early 'F'. If I can score a 1:72 Fujimi E/F at a 'sensible' price, then I'll do that also as an aggressor. No promises on this but the 1:48 model is a definite.

May look something like this....
