Pencil me in. I have one in the stash and the early warning means time to clear the bench and belt out as much as possible over the xmas break.

That's the idea - get Armistice out of the way and then gives Christmas break to do some fettling/whittling/assemblage.

BTW Azza and Viperbuilder, I expect you both to be in on this one too, when/if it goes ahead

My support may or may not include building something ;)
As it happens I've got a commission to build one so I might do it if he's willing to wait until December.

Edit
Jus' remembered I have some Aggressor stickers that may work, but really I'd like to do a Vietnam era USMC 'E' because you never see them built

Sounds like a good excuse to build one of these new fangled jet aircraft.
I can't even remember completing one as a child, though I loved the Skyhawk and Phantom back then.
Pretty sure I'll do a Kiwi one in 1/48

It's a possibility? Normally I'd say why not but beginning in December I'm committed to a two-man challenge of a car build with Paul Edwards. I'm off to the US Nationals again next year and will be taking models with me to enter this time around....a car and 2-3 aircraft. I've determined that the models will need to be on the small size and not have bits that will break off easily. One of the aircraft was going to be 1-48 and two candidates came to mind...an A-4 and an F4D.

I started a couple of fun builds during the weekend so I didn't turn up to Chch early next month empty-handed. Look for the new postings tomorrow night. Been busy again with them tonight. Not many days left to complete them.

Would be cool to see that built up FK.

I'm toying with the idea of using the Hasegawa A-4B and backdating to the XA4D-1 prototype complete with bare metal finish just for something different. If I can't get the Hasegawa B, then will look at a Hasegawa 1/48 TA-4J to OA-4M conversion instead.

Looks like enough interest already to make this a viable GB. I'll sort with Gary for Dec 22 start. Start getting bits and pieces ready. No starting before kick off date.

I was inspired by a build of the prototype A-4 a few years back and it's one on my list too. Somewhere in the stash is all my info on the same and how to get there.

After freeing myself up from the second job the old modeller's ego is starting to come back again and spending a weekend afternoon modelling has been so soothing and time consuming and now the mad panic is on to meet a deadline. Nothing has changed!

I would be keen...you're all very knowledgable obviously on the subject..all I know is that I used to love them doing low level mast strikes when I was in the navy. That is the extent of my knowledge..so I would want to do a kiwi bird...... what is the best most readily available kit to do this with?

Hey All,

Nice call Craig, maybe just what is called for to kick start me.
I will do a RNZAF pre Kahu T-bird. 1/48 Hasegawa kit, Gekko decals and some resin seats. Other than that just a OOD build and I will try correcting the slat step.
Will see if I can find some correct sized letters as there are no serial No.s for T-birds in the Gekko sets.

Marcus

I started building models, then I was collecting more than I built. Now I'm more of an archivist.

A lot depends on version but for a Kiwi bird, the only OOB option is the Hasegawa 1/48 boxing which is long OOP.

For a listing of A-4 kits, you can't go past
a4skyhawk.org/content/modelers-hangar-bay

Having said that, your best starting points in each scale are
1/72 - Fujimi A-4E
1/48 - Hasegawa A-4E - if you do a pre-Kahu aircraft then everything you need is in the box. Kahu aircraft require some mods - Kahu was the integration of the F-16 avionics systems into the RNZAF jets.
1/32 - Hasegawa or Trumpeter A-4E (except Trumpeter is about 2 - 3 x the price of the Hasegawa kit, but a more modern tooling)

I got the Italeri A4 Special edition (not sure what variant it is) but it says it has markings for RNZF? It's in the stash somewhere will have to dig it out nearer the time.
To be honest I'm not keen on doing an RNZF version purely because there are so many experts and it's a bit daunting as they can be a bit "picky" shall we say.........
I'd rather do some weird arse variant that no one knows much about :)

The Italeri kit is the old esci moldings. It's not bad for such an old kit, definitely not up to Hasegawa standards but can be built into a pretty decent looking kit and accuracy wise isn't too far off what it should be.
I was actually looking around at prices yesterday for a 1/48 Skyhawk and the italeri came up quite a bit, hence I did a bit of research on it. But, for the same price or less, I can get a hasegawa kit with decent decals already shipped from overseas. But since you've got it, you might as well build it.

In Soviet Russia, Iron Curtain GB builds you!

To be honest if i was to build one it would just be kiwi colours and decals...as long as it looked allright I'll be reasonably happy... historical accuracy would not be a huge factor to me...I would be happy with a representation of a kiwi plane.
Thanks Craig ...I can get a Hase A-4M from hobbyeasy for $4o inc postage.... it looks like skyhawk!..Close enough for me!
