Ok this may sound weird but from these two kits i plan to build two cars. I got the fujimi kit thinking that the flares and spoilers would be separate parts and the body would be a standard one that you would have to cut out the wheel arches and fit the racecar parts to like some of there other racercar kits. But no, what you get is a racecar shell with full roadcar interior. the Arii kit has a nice standard body shell but the rest is  So with some kit bashing and some scratch work i hope to have a roadcar and a racecar at the end of this.

2 cars from 2 kits? What kind of dark magic is this!!!

It's going to be interesting watching these come together, it sure looks like a LOT of work from where I'm sitting....

Go Rob! I always liked the look of the original RX-7 series but the 20mpg fuel consumption they got in road tests kind of put me off ever buying one.

Looking forward to seeing these two progress in the coming weeks/months.

Good luck with the build mate. I must admit, I wasnt a fan of the RX-7s to begin with, being a V8 snob, but age and changing tastes saw me actually really appreciate the designs of all the of the 7's. Probably started around the time the Batmobile came out as that is a horny looking beast still.

With the colour on the road car i made a start on this today. I removed the molded on windscreen wipers then started the inside. Cage is a few parts from the spares box and some plastic rod, used the dash from the Arii kit and Seat, gear stick, handbrake and steering wheel are also from the spares box. I changed my mind on the rear paneling and have removed it now, not sure how to finish that area off at this stage.

So progress on this one was finishing the cabin and roll cage which was then primed and decided to try making it look like it has taken a knock because rubbing is racing ;) and added some damage to the door.

Cheers guys :) got some more done. insides all painted, added wires from the battery to earth and the kill switch on the dash, pipes from the oil tank, decaled the seat :S then had my first go with etch with a belt i got from Chris/fooseboy. Man bending that stuff with my fat hands would be like trying to do keyhole surgery with baseball gloves on. Also got the base colours on the body, not easy to see but the right door and front guard are painted a different white to look like its been repaired at some point.

Cheers Admoto, was a bit of a sweat inducing moment. But hacking the flair was even harder  , but the end result works ok so worth the risk i think.

Added some wear and tear to the front

That damage looks super convincing and very painful. The tyre marks are especially good.

Thanks guys, The fiberglass is.. well i don't know what you'd call it, I was cutting up a plastic headlight at work and that is what was coming off the cutting wheel, modelers brain said i can use that for something and that's it.

I wanted this to look like a club car so went with tamiya rattle can clear rather than giving it a high gloss finish. musked and sprayed the bonnet decal matt clear to try make it look like its a sticker placed on the car. Drivers door and guard are a different white and painted the door frame and handle black to make it look as though they have been replaced. Chipped the paint and flicked alittle black around for some wear effect and matt cleared one tail light for a faded lens look. Added some brakes from the spares box, brake dust on wheels. made the muffler from evergreen plastic tube. That's about all i can think of atm so here's some pics. No under skirt shots as its a basic kit meant to be motorised so no detail under there.

Thanks :) I had the idea last year when i did the surf but lost track of time and getting the mazda done in time for AiC wasn't going to happen but at least i'm getting there now. original plan was to have a driver in the surf and another hooking the mazda up also with a driver in it but won't be doing the figures now. Will look at doing the base for it later in the year when i can put more than just a few hours here and there in to the hobby.
