What if ....... RNZAF A-10 Thunderbolt was created by Dads Army

A cheapy I picked up off TradeMe.

A wee bit of nose weight to prevent a tail sitting situation - 2x 150gn .303 projectiles

Office with painted seat belts, decal instrument panels

Basic assembly - fuselage, main wing, engines, tail assembly

Plenty of sanding & filling to do. Have managed to break of 3 antenna so far :S

I built this kit a while ago, from what I remember there weren't any major problems with contruction etc...
Looking forward to seeing how you get on with yours... I'll post up some pics of mine when I get a chance.

Slowly...........slowly chipping away here

Ten of the eleven weapon pylons will be loaded - once I paint all the ordinance :S

Splashed out and got a Eduard mask set for $5 - first time I've used a commercial mask - fingers crossed. I used Tamiya tape instead of Maskol to fill the large areas.

Better keep at it :)

Ah well.....................the frustration of a botched paint job :S

I laid down a nice base coat of XF 19 Light sky and was quite happy with it

And the weapons are coming along - Mavericks, Sidewinders, ECM pod, etc - not even bothering to fill sinkholes, as this is supposed to be a quick build to get some airbrush practice

And then I thought I'd try a 3 tone camo scheme

Started with green which went ok, left the large gap to hit with some dark grey.
I tested the spread of the spray on some paper but gun must have been blocked and as soon as I started spraying, my fine line shot out to a 2cm all or nothing job :wail: so I kept on going
Will re-paint on my next day off, which could be a while

That looks bloody good for your first time airbrushing. Especially considering it's freehand and on a 1/72 jet. Awesome work. I have yet to try freehand camo but will do soon. Looks bloody awesome! Makes my model of the same kit look amateurish... I'll post some pics up when I get a chance.

Go Go Go Freehand Man

Great Effort

On the Bench:
Tamiya 1/24 Alfa Romeo 155 V6 TI (1993 DTM) - "Built to Race" GB
Revell 1/24 '77 GMC Sierra 1500 4x4 - getting the "Mad-Maxed" treatment - moving to the "Diorama" GB

Ran out of interest on this one - finished it as another shelf filler though ;)

Weapons were a bit fiddly and I didn't nail the colour I was after for the bombs. Never mind, live and learn - I've spent enough time on this puppy - I have another Mustang on the go :cowboy:

I'd give it a wash with burnt umber oil paint thinned with mineral turps to blend it all in and darken it down. Looks great though especially as it's your first go with the Airbrush.

Cheers Gary.
I was planning to go down the oil wash road with this one.......but I'm over this bird.
Will play with oils on a build in the near future though :)
