Cheers all. More progress on the mountain scene. The track on this section is ballasted and some static grass has been added. Next up is a bit of weathering of the track and lots of bush gluing.

Looking good. This looks a lot like the land between Vegas and the Grand Canyon, very brown and red and spotted with shrubs...
Top stuff!

Cheers, I was mostly aiming for a generic Arizona/New Mexico look. I need to work out how to make some 1/160 saguaro cactus.

Well with the exception of the cactus you've nailed it.

Trees! In the mountains in New Mexico to low scrub changes into pine forest, so I've tried to represent that here. I still have a bunch more trees to stick on.

I'm working on the front yard scene. This ballast has given me a lot of problems with lifting even though I absolutely soaked it with glue. I've had to do several touch ups. I am now finished the coarse scenery on the layout and will be detailing from here on. I'm not sure how much detail I'll add, I think I'm almost ready for a new project.

Cheers guys. I'm selling because there is a Freemo HO modular group starting up down here and I want to get involved with that. I stuck it on a $1 reserve to make sure I got rid of it. Even if it sells very cheaply (which it probably will) I had my fun out of it an learned a huge amount. There is a bit of a difference in the quality of the early vs. later scenic work on the layout, so I'm happy with what I achieved. I think HO freemo modules give a lot more scope for realistic modelling given the bigger scale. It's much more like building a large diorama than a layout.

Yeah, when it was hovering at $50 it was a bit of a worry. I got more than enough to buy the materials for the next one. :)

Not at all, I was hoping people would want to see more of Grant's work without Grant having to pay TradeMe 50c an image, I'm surprised you didn't put a link to the build itself. I mean there is also the free advertising for us but hey............

Of course I knew you'd have another angle for the plug. It was fantastic work and it is quite different someone being able to see just how much time and effort got put into something they just bought. I'd imagine it would make you far more attached to it....

Yeah, I should have put a link. I wasn't thinking.

I'm moving on with the new project. I've settled on a subject and got all the track and timber I'll need. Also a nice Atlas HO sound loco. This time I'm going to model an actual place: the area around Mormon Rocks in Cajon Pass just outside of LA. I'm going to try to ratchet up the accuracy and prototypicality, but it will be a compressed version given the size of the scene and the demands of the freemo standard. I'll post a topic if people are keen. :)
