Hi team KM

My Dad recently sent me some photos of his Dad's he dug up, which date from Grandad's training in Canada, which I've attached below. We don't know whether Grandad was taking the photo or if he was in shot somewhere, but I was wondering if someone here might have an idea why these two are sitting on the wings like that. Are they just having fun?

Not uncommon practice on tail dragger aircraft. Pilot had poor line of sight over the nose when taxiing, so the guys on the wingtips were to help him avoid hitting things he wasn't supposed to.
