Alright, I'm hoping to make this a quick build, have a few GB's that I have committed to that will be starting at the beginning of next month. So I'm aiming to have this completed by the end of next week... all going well lol. This will be finished in black, and I'm aiming to have it look like the "Supernatural" car (I actually have three of these kits, but just building one at the moment, this will be going to a friend for Christmas)
I started this last night - Box art first and body
And made the engine, but no paint or anything on it yet, so no point in pics... but look at these seats... One is before filing and sanding... I'm genuinely shocked at the state of the original fit... but hey, least I can tidy it up!
Cool car i love the impala both the coupe and the sedan and i know you're going to make it look great. But isn't the impala in SN a sedan? And i know what you mean about the AMT molding the USA 1 monster truck i was using as a donor for the sci-fi build was terrible i hope all their kits aren't like that as i'm looking at one for an upcoming build
Yeah, it's not the right model for the Supernatural vehicle... few differences, not a four door, the front seat should be a bench seat instead of two seperate seats... but hey, that's life, and I maye modify one of the other 2 kits I have to suit it better... We will see.
This should be a great little build. I quite like the AMT range - they capture the look of the cars well, where as some of the US Revell/Monogram kits never look right no matter how much work you put into them. I think AMT were for a long time the manufacturer of 'promo' models for the US car manufacturers so they had access to the original manufacturers drawings - I think a lot of their kits started as 'promo' models.
Didn't quite make as much progress as I wanted over the weekend, but I did get the body painted. I need to give it a sand, and ensure that I get the paint nice and smooth, there are a few places which the paint didn't go down very well.
Also got the engine block painted, and starting to build it up with parts. I wont be adding any more wiring or anything to this one, just straight OOB build.
Cheers man. This is the better side The roof didn't go on as smoothly as I wanted, and also the other side of the car didn't come out as nice. So will be bringing it back a bit, and having another go at it tomorrow night
I just thin using some thinners I got from Mitre 10 a long while back. Works a charm, and haven't ever had any problems. Also means I have heaps of thinners for cleaning etc. Ever since I was a kid, I used Enamels, and I guess it just stuck through to my adult years. When I went and brought the paints, I didn't know the difference between Acrylic and Enamel, and just went for the bottles I remember...
I have got some Mr. Surfacer thanks to K1 - So I might have to try it out maybe with the next set... Though I am supposed to be using that for my F1 Ferarri which stalled when I noticed how much body work is needed, and then also my other models I wanted to get worked on...
I know a lot of folks prefer enamels and lacquer's for doing gloss finishes...The Mr.Hobby I used on the nascar were lacquers...They went down well...But it was my first car so what would I know!..Its looking good anyway K2..you can have yer thread back now!
Timely build - looking good so far. Hope it gives you some motivation to do the full meal deal on a second one
Love that show - one of my faves. Couple of weeks ago I pulled down all 11 seasons on Kodi (plus what there is so far of S12) and have been binge watching from the start. Just finished season 2 and it's still as good as I remember.
Good man! We're just currently going through season 7 at the moment.. a bit stalled as the rs was binge watching something else.
Yes, I would love to go the fill deal on the next one or two... but the only problem being that it's a huge rebuild to get the body to be four door, and then the interior... and I'll have to find a bench seat for the front... so might put them on hold for a little while longer lol.
I was thinking about a boot full of weapons, and might with one of the other kits I have... but that would mean opening the boot without damaging the body, and scratch building the whole lot... which I could do... but this one needs to be done quickly as it's for a Christmas Present which I will need to send away rather quickly lol.
The engine was done last night, some basic shots. Tonight sanding back the body a bit to try and repair the bits of paint that didn't go down well, then colour the interior and detail the dash... Really trying to push to have it done by the weekend - got some other projects I am quite looking forward too (Not that I am not liking this build)
Quite a bit cheaper than some on-line mode shops based here in NZ and they really hustle with the delivery. I would suggest that you start with the 4000 grade as the finish on the kit looks pretty good in the pics. 4000 to 12000 and lots of water, you'll be fine.
I'll have to see with the bank (aka the mrs) if I am able to lol - I'll also probably want to paint up a different body, and give it a go on that, as I'm happy with the paint job I have now, though it isn't perfect, but I wouldn't want to ruin it lol.
I'm also a big Supernatural fan, I've seen all of them over the years but I found them all for free on Kodi so we're going to be binge watching them from the start again.
This build made me go out and buy the last of the AMT kits from MA, not sure when I'll get round to it but when I do it'll be a full out Sam and Dean replica, I'm going to be taking notes as we go through the series.
Maybe we can compare them at AiC next year.
Great job you're doing with yours so far Kane, I'll be stealing your ideas for sure.
I will be looking at doing the full four door conversion, bench seat etc with the next one. I'm supposed to be sending this one to a friend for Christmas... so I might be able to get one done again by Armistice next year lol - We'll see.
I've seen they have just taken the series off Netflix - BOO!! That's where we were watching it. Might have to try your site suggested Gary
I bought an R-Box off off Aliexpress, it came all preconfigured with Kodi and a bunch of other streaming applications. I just plugged it in and started watching every TV show you can imagine, right back to Buck Rogers up to the latest episode of The Grand Tour and I don't even need to download anything, you just need a good net connection.
