That is really cool. The original bonnet must be diecast to be able to do that?

the original kit bonnett is clear plastic and now painted silver the damaged one i made out of aluminium which is what the real ones are on these cars. I painted it about 3 weeks ago without sanding it and left it till the weekend to make sure the paint was nice and hard before crashing it into a pen in the hope the paint would crack and lift off the panel where it bent just like what happens on the real ones when there crashed and it has worked pretty well better than the pics show.

original and alloy bonnetts before they got painted

The alloy hood looks prefect. :woohoo:
Nice touch with the different coloured second hand panels too. The colours all look like factory 300Z colours to me.

Thanks powder. Yes apart from the blue they are factory colours for 300's the yellow is a three stage pearl probably a little OTT for a model :) bonus about being a painter any time i want to make a car model i just look up the colour options for them on the computer at work and make a little up

I don't have the words. Completely convincing. The busted bonnet particularly. You can tell you do this for a living.

Very cool work Yak.
Fujimi do/did a set of 1/24 garage tools. There might be something useful in that set too.

Nice touch drilling the holes in the gearbox flange - I assume you drilled them - I can't imagine Tamiya bothering to include them when it was intended to be mated to an engine.

Thanks every one, motivation still pretty low for modelling got a lot of stress atm but im sure itll be sorted soon so i can get back into this and the other two builds sitting on my desk.

Malcolm, I have that fujimi set and these bits are out of it. the mig i had to make up using the bottle from the oxy/acct set up and the main unit is part of the ac unit from the set with a few other bits from elsewhere. The gearbox was molded to the engine so i cut it off and made all the innards and drilled the bellhousing holes etc

I really like workshop dioramas. Seeing some of these is what got me in to the hobby. My first diorama was a 1/12 scale bike workshop. Turned out ok for a first attempt. Hope you get these finished sometime soon so we can see more.

So it's been a year since i did anything on this  but have found some motivation for it again and spent the last few nights on it. Made the last bits for the mig welder, painted it and started weathering it the jack and the chassis machine. Last time i worked on this i had put some decals on the tool box and painted the details on it. That was a year ago plenty of time for everything to dry i would have thought, but putting a couple of light coats of clear on has not worked out that well. So it'll be going into a bag with some oven cleaner. Not the best start :(

scratched the chassis machine and bits of the wielder and modified/repurposed bits from the garage set for the wielder, rest is from the garage set.

Haven't manage to much this week, got the tool box stripped and repainted red, primed and painted a few small bits for the engine bay and made the cable and piping cover for the chissi machine that run across the floor and the control console for it also.
