Along side the Fabulous Hudson Hornet, I will also be building this one. SWMBO liked this model, and chose it for me to build. This will be my little "tester" to check methods, and ensure I am doing it right.

Sprue shots on this one. Made a very small start last night, but not worth pictures. Just some suspension arms, and the one piece engine cut off, and exhaust fitted...

Good choice, Amanda, determined to buy/build that kit next year (or the year after  ), watching closely, Kane.

Lol, hopefully I don't screw it up. I was looking at the kit rather confused last night.. all the pieces, and different things to paint (suspension, underside of van, engine) and just couldn't think about what needs to be done first! I'm so used to aircraft that I just stared blankly at it for a while lol. Hopefully this weekend will be back into it with some gusto :)

Back on to the VW, so weird building a car and not something with guns on it... pretty basic detail on her, but got the seats in and painted and body primed. Also stripped the chrome parts and will attempt to get them sprayed right over the next few days.

Sorry for the semi blurry pics, they looked fine on the phone.

It doesn't matter. It's a VW, it's not like it will be going anywhere :P

Nice progress on the kit K2.

You could modify it into a Rhodesian Leopard  They really were based on VW vans.

Watching this one K2. No guns, please?
I have one of these in mind for a diorama.

No, no guns on this one :) and also no diorama! (shock horror). Just going to be displayed in the cabinet (hopefully) all shiny!

Not much to report last night - smoothed off the primer with very light sanding, and painted the white on the top half.

Now looking at it, she should have a chrome edging going up along the curve, separating the colours. The kit comes with decals for this, but they have a red stripe down the middle of it (Red was supposed to be the original colour, but the better half wanted it to be X-13, metallic blue). I was thinking of just masking this off, and painting it on, but there is no markings, or hump for it on this...

Looking into it, there is an example I found online with the red strip on a non red van, but most have the same or similar colour. Should I just paint that part on (is going to involve some tricky masking) or do I go with the decal option?

Still a pain though, as there is no marking as to where it should go, or a hump!

Wow that van looks cool...even in that colour.
For yours, I'd stick with the red strip. I reckon it'd look good against a met blue body colour. B)

You get to have a decent amount of artistic expression. I'm kinda leaning towards Tania's idea. Maybe a plain chrome strip and cream top, med-blue bottom?

I'll get the paint on the bottom half and then have a look and see if the decal works... otherwise I might try to get a piece of styrene, and potentially get it the right shape... and then paint that chrome before I attach it... I'll have to experiment, but first off, get the blue paint on first

The cars one was a Combi though wasn't it? The one with less windows? Maybe I should just go ahead and get them all lol.

Well got the paint done! there are a few touch ups to be done, which shouldn't be too bad, a couple of bits where the masking lifted slightly, but otherwise, she's smooth, and even! Not too bad for my first car paint job.

Will try get some better pics in the sun after work tonight

Yeah, my understanding is that these ones are quite rare.

She Who Must Be Obeyed took a pic and sent it through. I'm building this one for her, so she's pretty happy with it at the moment :) Looks nice in the sunlight, apparently better with eyes than on the screen

Progressing nicely. It wasn't until Toyota took this art form and turned it into a big mac that we started the mini bus trend. Now everyone does one, but they don't look like this!

Hey guys, long time no talk!! Sorry, festive season took over, and haven't really been spending time at the computer. Will be endeavouring to go through everything over the next few days, hopefully will catch up.

Will post a couple of pics here, as finished, and then the rest in the showcase part. I couldn't do the strip as intended, the styrene wouldn't shape right, so ended up just using the decals. They didn't go on greatly, but good enough. I'm pretty happy for my first car build :)

Thanks all for following :)

Sweet. Nice subject and build. B)

Was the wrinkling on the front stripe decal the problematic bit? Did you use some decal solution?

Yeah I did... thought it would suck it down... was quite hard to place right. and moving one side would adjust the other side, even though it was very wet, it started to stick quite easily (could be the heat)... I might put some more on it later on, but I don't think it will get much better than what it is.
